My favorite part of the holidays…

Susan B. wears a leopard-embroidered cashmere sweater and faux suede jeggings from Chico's. Details at une femme d'un certain age.

This has always been one of my favorite weeks of the year. The pre-Christmas rush is over, but decorations are still up, and the mood is still festive. We’ve been watching some of our favorite holiday movies, and are looking forward to toasting the New Year with family and friends via Zoom.

“The point is, I have a leopard.”

The folks at Chico’s kindly sent me this leopard-embroidered cashmere sweater. As soon as I saw it, I was immediately reminded of another favorite movie, “Bringing Up Baby.” If you haven’t yet seen this one, you’re in for a treat! It’s a classic screwball comedy (and I do mean screwball! 😂 ) starring Katharine Hepburn and Cary Grant. And a very tame leopard, 🐆 “Baby.” Hepburn’s costumes are a high point, as are Grant’s athletic pratfalls.

The pants are faux suede, and really comfortable. They are machine washable and run a little large. I’m wearing the 00P/2P.

The sweater and pants are both included in Chico’s Semi-Annual Sale (up to 70% off!). The loafers are from last year and no longer available, but here’s a similar pair (and yes, they’re on sale).

  1. I’m with you…love this time of the year…things ease up and I settle in for the new year, new ideas, and hopefully, the end of this pandemic. Happy 2021…I enjoy your posts, thank you.

  2. Absolutely fabulous! Thank you for including the affiliate link for the cheetah sweater @ Chico’s! This girl will be sporting the sweater in Ohio.

  3. If you’re looking for a screwball comedy with some longevity, I highly recommend the 5 season TV series, Chuck, on Prime. It’s a great combination of witty humor and crazy physical antics as a team of government operatives have to protect a computer geek with the only access to every government secret in his brain. We introduced it to our adult children over the holidays and they’re all hooked too. I’ll definitely be checking out Bringing Up Baby this week too!

  4. We packed up all our Christmas decorations yesterday! After the actual holiday, I just get tired of looking at it all. So over it! Glad my home is back to normal! Watched a cute movie on Netflix called Prom, which has Meryl Streep and Nicole Kidman. just pure light comedy, with music! just loved it! love the sweater on you, I cannot wear that color and cannot wear cashmere here in Florida! oh well……

  5. Love your classy look. Bringing Up Baby is a great movie. My Dad introduced me to classic movies and this is one of his picks. Thanks for the reminder. I need to share this with the younger generation.

  6. Love your color transformation, it’s fun to watch unfold. I’ve been watching on Netflix, Queens Gambit, Prom, Amelie in Paris, some are lighthearted, some for the costumes.

  7. Those colours suit you so well, on me, I would disappear. I can remember Bringing UP Baby from years ago, and love those films from that era. As for the decorations, just yesterday I told my husband that I am not taking down the decorations until Jan. 2 as I do love reading by the lit tree at night. It is just so cosy and comforting since we are in total lockdown again, and anything that distracts is great. We have both read way more books than usual, and it is a perfect way to escape.

  8. I too love the post-Christmas period. The pressure leading up to Christmas Day is over, but we can enjoy the lights, the decorations, and tasty leftovers. This Christmas was different for us due to the pandemic so we had no holiday gatherings and didn’t do any in person shopping. However, this year, as we settle into dark days of winter and the pandemic, I find even more comfort in the holiday light displays. On another note, I love your outfit. So festive and fun, and you look great in those colors.

  9. I wanted to comment on your last post but unable to find a place to do so. I agree with you wholeheartedly about a new outlook on my
activities pre-Covid, and also examining my priorities. During this time of staying at home we have cleaned out, donated, thrown away, and
recycled. Hubby and I agree that we have way too much stuff.

I will keep the Christmas decorations up for a few more days as I like to look at the fairy lights on the mantel and the greenery everywhere inside.

You look wonderful in those colors, love the shoes too.

  10. I like keeping my Christmas decorations up for a while after Christmas day also – it just seems to make the house feel cozy. A couple (older) movies that I like are Shirley Valentine and Bread & Tulips – they have moments verging on screwball, but mostly they just make me smile, and who doesn’t need that? Your outfit is great, I love the sweater. Best wishes for the new year and I truly appreciate all of the inspiration that you provide us!

  11. My favorite screwball movie is 2 movies but they are the same movie! The 1958 version of Auntie Mame with Rosalind Russell & the 1974 version Mame with Lucille Ball. They are both hilarious & as hilarious Lucille Ball is, the 1958 version is the best (in my humble opinion). Rosalind Russel is just SO funny; my sides are hurtin from laughing so much)
I bought the sweater a few weeks ago & I absolutely love it! It’s just what we need right now, cozy. I happen to have a pair of pants that are that color & are also suede & a pair of leopard sneakers! That sweater goes with so many things I already have & it can be worn dressed casual or it can be dressed up. Thanks for the idea! LOVE your blog!!

  12. I love everything you wear since you changed your colors. This is one time when I just have to buy another sweater although I live on the MS Coast. It has been very Cold here for a few nights, which makes me want to buy cashmere and snuggle under fleece. However today I have my doors open because it is back to bring warm. I’m sure I’ll have a chance to wear the sweater though in Jan or Feb. Hope they have my size.

  13. “My Man Godfrey” with William Powell and Carole Lombard and “Ninotchka” with Greta Garbo are hilarious, screwball comedies. Happy New Year to you, Susan, and thanks for writing such wonderful posts.

I know you’re also a fan of “Call My Agent”-season 4 will be on Netflix on 1/21/21!

  14. I don’t know if this qualifies as “screwball”, but one of my favorite feel-good comedies/love-stories is “Shakespeare in Love”. Two others I adore & can watch over & over again: “The Full Monty” & “A Knight’s Tale”. All 3 of these never fail to delight me. LOVE your sweater & pant combo — I especially like that neckline on the sweater. I have one almost identical to it (except no cheetahs, alas!) & wear it a LOT. And yes, this is one of my favorite times of the year, too. I like Christmas but am always glad when it’s over & I can start getting my house & life back to what laughingly passes as “normal” (which, as a friend keeps reminding me, is a setting on your dryer & not a recipe for life). My husband & I traditionally spend this week snuggling on the sofa with the cat, drinking buckets of tea & making lists of all the things we want to do & learn & read & watch, projects we want to get done in the house & garden, places we want to visit, goals we want to reach. I’m always puzzled by people who think this time of the year is sad: to me it’s a new, fresh start full of hope & dreams & possibilities!

  15. Great photo. Love your hair off your face, it gives you a completly different look…very nice!
I’m with you, I adore this week. It’s like we’ve been given a special hall pass and can skip class. Here in Cuenca, a lot of folks have country homes and the city is pretty quiet.
I’ve been cashmere sale hunting, I’ll hop over to Chico’s and have a look. The whole outfit on you is stunning.
Be well Susan, a new year with amazing possiblities awaits us. And, boy do we need it…
    xok

  16. Susan, your post this year have inspired us through this uncharted time. Instead of wallowing in boredom I can hardly wait to try something new.
I look forward to your posts be they overviews of pop culture, travel, cooking, books or fashion, I am with you. As long as we keep growing outside of our comfort we are moving mentally and for now, that is what we need.
    Cheers to the New Year!

  17. Love the sweater and the colors on you – purrfect!! (I’m a cat mom) Absolutely LOVE Bringing Up Baby. Kathryn Hepburn and Cary Grant had a great time filming it and it shows. Thank you for keeping us on the right track – happy, healthy and looking fabulous! (Sorry for lateness in posting but your emails have all gone to my Virus Blocker folder for the past week.)
