Coming And Going In Navy
Out And About In A Navy Jacket…
This jacket was one of my souvenirs from Italy. As promised when I debuted it in this post, I’m sharing some better photos now that I’ve had it shortened. Though it may seem unseasonal for late spring, thanks to intermittently cool and overcast weather I’ve actually worn it several times in the last couple of weeks.
Wearing: earrings | jacket (similar look) | tee | medallion necklace |
chain necklace (c/o) | bracelet | bag | watch (similar) | jeans | shoes
I absolutely LOVE this jacket!! It’s nicely shaped, and just structured enough. The tropical weight wool fabric drapes and moves beautifully. It’s one of those “basic with interest” pieces that’s become Wardrobe Holy Grail for me.
The jacket is from Belgian brand Scapa, which unfortunately is not available in the US. But if you live the UK or Europe or will be visiting, be sure and look for it!
Photos by Tannaz Photography. (Instagram here.) We shot these along Abbott-Kinney Blvd. in Venice, CA, where there’s always lots of fun wall art to use as backdrops.
I like the navy-leopard mix here too.
What types of pieces are your Wardrobe Holy Grail?

Right on with the jacket. You look marvelous.
Linda, thank you!
Well, have to comment on this…….and the comment is Beautiful! You rock this look.
Thanks so much, susie!
Hi Susan,
I love your navy jacket – it’s absolutely beautiful. Love the detail and pleating at the back.
One of my treasured possessions is a navy jacket my husband bought me – it doesn’t have the detail of yours but, like yours – it’s a classic piece that never dates.
You can dress it up or down and, it really does go with everything.
Vicki, thank you! I agree that a navy jacket is a very versatile piece.
The jacket is gorgeous and your hair is looking very chic.
Thanks so much, Josephine!
That jacket is crazy beautiful!!! My HG:navy schoolboy blazer from J. Crew. When it was discontinued I purchased two as backups!!!!
Thank you, Catherine! Good move getting the backups…
Great jacket, great hair, and cute, cute, cute pictures! You look wonderful.
Harmony, thanks so much!
The jacket is lovely, especially the pleating and buttons on the back. Daughter and I are heading to Europe in a few weeks and I’m taking lots of navy pieces this time. It looks much ‘softer’ than black. Love your site!
Thank you, Addison! Have a wonderful time in Europe!
Beautiful. So simple but elegant. Also love the way the shoes and bag play together.
Thanks very much, Lisa!
I really love this jacket, Sue. Looks just about perfect with your jeans and a simple tee. I’m loving navy this season too. Nothing fresher and springier than navy and white together. Now if only we’d get some June weather here in Ottawa. Somehow mother nature thinks it’s March!
Idem in Montréal, pretty much due east of you. It never stops raining!
Pseu looks lovely in navy; it doesn’t suit me at all. Black, leadpipe grey, deep green or odd dark tones that are like deep violet or red suit me better. And as I have a black cat, I NEVER wear white!
There is a lot of “cool wool” in Italy; tropical weight that men wear even in the summertime.
lagatta, thank you. Yes, I wish more of that lightweight wool was available here.
Thanks so much, Susan! Navy is definitely on my radar more these days. Hope you get some better weather soon!
You had such a drought earlier, our regions look like Ireland now. It is beautiful but I’m sick of the endless rain. Ottawa and Montréal have pretty much the same weather. We have record floods, especially along the river between the two cities. That river is called the Ottawa in English and the Outaouais in French, both mishearings of the original Native name which is something like Odawe. It flows into the St. Lawrence (St-Laurent) just a bit west of Montréal. There is a huge amount of fresh water.
Love the navy jacket! It has pizzas! It’s a first for you! Great going! Don’t you love those Europeans?!
Thanks, Daniella!
I think I almost fell off my chair when I saw the back of the jacket! Can you hear my long covetous sigh? Looks marvelous. Length is perfect. You inspired me to find something like it (before I saw the pleats & buttons) and found an amazing DKNY lightweight wool, thigh length open jacket on eBay! Thanks for the continual style nudges to up my game. Cheers! P.S. Great photos. Very evocative.
Thanks, Nicole K! Enjoy your new jacket!
Yep, one more voice cheering for that jacket, the great way you’ve styled it, and how fabulous you look in it!
Thanks so much, Frances! Looks like you’re having a wonderful trip….
A great souvenir and an excellent wardrobe staple-with-an-edge!!
Thank you! I’m so glad I didn’t let this one get away. 🙂
I always love a touch of animal print!
Me too, thanks!
You look wonderful! Great hair, a fabulous smile, and that amazing jacket! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks so much, Cathy D!
That’s one fabulous look! I want that marvelous coat and the combination with the clare v bag is striking.
Thanks very much, Pam! I love how this bag really pops against darker colors.
I fell for this look when I saw your Instagram! The back of this jacket is awesome and I really like the way you have styled it!
Thanks so much, Pam!
i think i’m in love with this jacket. actually the entire outfit, but that jacket is simply divine. are you loving frayed jeans as much as i am? perfect choice for this look.
xoxo
Thanks so much, Beth! Yes, I’m really loving the frayed hem jeans too.
Absolutely LOVE that jacket and how you accessorize it. The pleating details make it a real standout and one of the most favorite pieces you’ve shown! Next time I’m in Europe I’ll look for the brand. PS: Bought the Paul Greens you’re wearing when in Germany. So comfy!
You look fabulous! Love the jacket — its a perfect travel and transitional piece. And the necklace! Great style.
Hi Susan. Just caught up with all your posts as my son was married this weekend. I LOVE that jacket! Do you mind sharing the name of the boutique in Venice where you purchased it. My daughters live in Rome but are heading to Venice next week for a wedding. Thanks! Really love your posts and particularly enjoyed the letting go of insecurities post. I’m 62 and just recently felt comfortable putting on a bathing suit. Wish I’d had that confidence when I was a size 4 and covered up sweating on the beach too afraid someone would notice my “fat” thighs.
Best,
Lisa
Hi Lisa, the name of the boutique is Pot-Pourri. Here’s the link: http://www.potpourri.it/en/ It’s a fabulous shop and the staff are very helpful!
Thank you! Just called my daughters and they’re on it. I’m short too, 5’2″, so seeing someone approximately my height pull off that jacket was a plus. LOVE the blog!
OMG, we found Pot-Pourri while wandering around Venice earlier this month. I absolutely loved working with Jasmine who has a really great eye. I bought a similar Scapa jacket in the Azure Blue color and my husband bought a handsome men’s jacket at their men’s boutique next door (both jackets have the same colorful lining). I looked Scapa up and found they have a boutique on Rue des Saints Pères in Paris. I guess great minds think alike.
Quick update. There’s a Scapa boutique on the Via Vittorio in Rome and the sales person is on the hunt for a navy size 44! Excited!
Awesome!!
Hi Susan, I’m 5’2″ and I usually wear a 8-10 Petite. They have both sizes in Rome, 42 and a 44. Would you mind telling me if the navy jacket runs true to size? Does it have any “give?” My daughter called but doesn’t know which size to pick up for me. She’s fluent in Italian but I, unfortunately, am not.
Hi Lisa, I think it depends on your shoulders. I’m a 6 Petite, usually, and the size 40 was a good fit for me. I have broad shoulders for my height, so take that into consideration. The fabric does have some stretch to it.
I love the jacket on you. It nicely pulls together the more casual jeans and top. I really would love a holy grail piece for summer but it’s too hot and humid to wear a third piece most of the time. Even a loose vest seems to heavy. I’ll have to think on it.
Susan, My daughter just bought the navy in wool. So excited! They were willing to give her a “sconto” (discount) if she bought the jacket in the light blue linen too. Here in New England wearing linen is a 3 month affair, if you’re lucky! Thanks so much for all your help regarding sizing. It was invaluable. Keep on writing and sharing tips! So thrilled I discovered your blog.
Wonderful! I hope you enjoy it!
