New piece, two ways

This lightweight top (brand “Aventures des Toiles,”) was one of the first pieces Karen and I spotted on the racks.  It’s sheer and needs a camisole underneath, but I LOVE the print and the colors!
Here’s how I styled it for work yesterday.
Navy Blazer: Talbots
Jeans: Gap Edition
Shoes:  Fluevog
Watch:  MICHAEL Michael Kors
Necklaces:  R.Lauren and J.Crew
(I was doing these in a hurry and didn’t realize I had a sleeve sticking out in a weird place until after I’d put everything away and was editing the pictures. D’oh!)
Here’s another option.  I just love that this top coordinates so well with so many pieces I already own!
Sweater:  J. Crew (from last year)
Pants:  Not Your Daughter’s Jeans cotton trousers
Shoes:  Think!
Necklace: Orange agate from Etsy, dana leblanc designs
Bracelet:  Talbot’s
I’ll definitely be on the lookout for more tops by Avenures des Toiles!

  1. The cami-under is necessary for sheer. Sometimes it works for me and other times it turns out to ‘drag’ on the fabric of the top. Fun to see you experiment with your new things!

  2. Duchesse – yesterday I wore with an Eileen Fisher silk tank (close fitting) underneath and it worked brilliantly. This piece definitely requires and under layer that’s “slippery.”

  3. Love, love , love that top! It looks like an absract stained glass window! I don’t think you could put that on and not feel “good in your skin”. What a great choice, Ms. Pseu!

  4. Yay! You bought the necklace!! I love both of these looks, and can’t wait to see photos of you modeling them.

Wish that top came in my size — it’s just the sort of thing I need for Madrid, where last summer I often felt underdressed. I was thinking about why, and came to the conclusion that it was too many plain tees. So this year the plan is more print tops, and more accessories. Probably not a lot of scarves, though, as it’s usually in the 90’s when I’m there!

  5. In this case I like it particularly when you support the tops natural exuberance with the pistachio sweater and the not quite matching shoes. Like your inner artist is truly finding her way out.

  6. Wow, first I thought that your new top is a painting! I have never seen something like that! Naturally you chose it, it has your colors all over it! A very sensitive, unusual piece of clothing. You keep your eye on the brand!

  7. That top jumped right on into things, didn’t it? Efficient as well as unusual — the perfect combination. With your coloring I bet you just glow in it.

Since I’m nosy, is it something you’d wear without a top layer?

[I find I have a few tops that I vaguely dislike on their own, but enjoy toned down/corralled by a jacket or sweater…wondering how common this is!]

  8. Sal – thanks! This top just seems to “play well with others” in my closet.

metscan – thank you! I think that painting-like quality of the print is what drew me. One of the other tops I found is also very much like a painting, though a very different style. Karen made an astute observation, “you love art, and this is a way to express that.”

    Marsi – thanks!

    Nancy – thank you.

Katriona – thanks so much. Yes, this piece feels Just Right.

  9. hostess – thanks, and oh yes, my Fluevogs were happy to have some new friends to play with.

    materfamilias – thanks so much!

Rubiatonta – thank you. And thanks so much for the nudge on that necklace. It’s fabulous! I’ll bet you could find something similar in a tank version for those 90F days.

LPC – thanks! I think my inner Artsy Cousing is coming to the fore. I wasn’t wearing that sweater much as the color just seemed too strong with neutrals, but it really does work well with other colors.

    Miss Janey – thank you!

WendyB – Thanks but, sssshhhh. Don’t tell. Getting around those alarms at MOMA was a bear. 😉

    Semi Expat – thank you!

  10. Nancy K – thank you. I can’t take credit for finding that link though. Sal at Already Pretty featured in a post. I just went there and picked a favorite, with some backup from Rubiatonta who also suggested that necklace.

Vix – thanks! Yes, I’d wear without a top layer (but not without something underneath). We’re just still in layering weather here, so that’s where my mind goes. It looks great on its own.

    Sara – thank you!

  11. Lovely new top. It is stunningly beautiful and it plays well with other pieces in your wardrobe. You seem to be finding your twisted groove.

  12. Awesome! THat top is so great because of the mesh. So light, nicer than a regular tee, not as stiff as a blouse. Sue loves art, and the top allows her to express that! Perfection. Get some mesh tees, ladies! Karen.

  13. Mardel – thanks so much! Yes, I feel as though I’m “in the zone.”

karen – thanks again so much for your help and hard work! I’m really excited about my new pieces!
