Some cool new things I spied this week

After a colder than usual spring, I’m actually looking forward to some warmer weather. I’ve been perusing some of the new summer styles that landed this week, and am seeing lots to love.

New summer styles in navy & neutrals

J.Crew has really been singing my tune lately! While some of the styles are still a little too ruffly, twee, or skimpy for my tastes, there are plenty options for simple and classic wardrobes.

This linen-cotton blend sweater will be perfect for our cool coastal evenings, which often last well into July. Love those gold buttons! It’s also available in navy with ivory stripes, sizes XX-Small to 3X.

I’m seeing pearl details everywhere this season, including on this packable straw wide-brim hat.

This casual shirt dress in 100% linen is a great option for your next warm-weather getaway. Wear it as is, or open as a lightweight topper, or add a belt for going out in the evening. Available in 5 colors, Classic sizes XX-Small to 3X, also in Petite & Tall.

For those of you who have been asking for longer skirts without ruffles, tiers, volume, or floral prints, here you go! This linen gingham slip skirt is a nice marriage of sleek and summery. Sizes XX-Small to XX-Large (reviews says it runs large, some other colors available to 3X).

If you’re on the hunt for linen pieces, I’ve shared a few more of my picks here.

Raffia shoes and bags are a big trend this season, and one I endorse for versatility. These neutral sandals look like they’d go with just about anything. (But the black patent ones are also fun, and would look great with the gingham skirt above!)

New stuff on sale

Talbot’s is having a Friends & Family event, with 30% off your purchase, including new arrivals. (To be honest, a lot of this collection is just a bit too…Tropical Punch 🍊🍉🍋🥭🍍 👀 for me, but I did find some good basics in there.)

It’s not always easy to find longer shorts with a slim leg. I thought this gingham pair was cute, but they’re also available in several solid colors. Misses, Petite, Plus and Plus Petite sizes available. There’s an even longer style with a 13″ inseam. All are included in the Friends & Family discount.

Here’s a print that’s eye-catching, not eye-searing. This 100% linen top is available in Misses, Petite, Plus and Plus Petite sizes. (Best on Winters.)

This little metallic open stitch cardigan is a neat way to add some coverage to sleeveless dresses and tops. It’s a cotton blend, also available in a warmer camel/gold metallic color.

The bow adds a fun and feminine touch to these linen espadrille wedges. Also in bright pink and natural.

Are there any gaps in your warm weather wardrobe you’re looking to fill? Let me know, and I’ll keep eyes open.

Bon weekend!

  1. Hi Susan,
I would love your take on summer purses. Crossbodies are my go-to, and I haven’t found one (other than a YSL spendy one) that makes my heart sing.
    Thanks for all you do!

  2. I’m reading the book Kingdom of Prep: the inside story of the rise and (near) fall of J. Crew by Maggie Bullock. It’s a fascinating read–highly recommend!

  3. I’m a summer color season. Love the chambray, white, pearl and raffia look. I live in a frigid climate. I realized I don’t really have “bridge” shoes. I have tan booties and sandals. I need a closed shoe in a light neutral.

  4. I like a fabric or straw handbag in summer. I’m off to Palm Springs this week where the temperature is topping three digits. Summer is back in southern Caliornia.

  5. I like those Perfect Shorts at Talbot. I’ve had checked bottoms over the years and prefer them in pant over short length. These shorts also come in solids and I’d go with that. The web site shows them with tops tucked in. It depends on your proportions and the cut of the tunic, but a longer tunic top over them works for me once temperatures crank up.

  6. I have more than enough clothes for warm wearher and the forecast is cold weather, so I’ll pass .
