All Skate! These Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Top Picks Are Still in Stock
Everyone can now shop the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. If you’ve had your eye on something but assumed it was already sold out…good news! There are some great pieces still in stock. I’ve gone through the current listings and rounded up a few stylish, practical picks that are worth a second look. These are the items I think offer great value, longevity, and a little something special, whether you’re refreshing your basics or adding a standout piece to your wardrobe.
At-home try-on: my sale picks
First up, some of my own purchases (that are still in stock). I still have a couple of items “in transit,” but have been able to try several pieces I’d flagged on my wish list.
These pleated knit trousers from Vince are stylish, comfortable, and travel-friendly! I love this “Dark Sierra Oak” color, which is close to Cinnamon in the Spring palette, but Autumns could wear it too. Also available in Black. They’re a bit long for me, so I’ll have them shortened, but otherwise the fit is great!

I’m wearing size Small in the sweater jacket.
This is the cotton sweater jacket from Caslon. It’s offered in 4 colors, and all colors and sizes were still available (as of Friday afternoon). It’s a medium-weight piece and I think it could be dressed up or down. Runs true-to-size. It’s a bit longer on me than I usually prefer, and I’m still deciding whether to keep or not.

My sizes: Vest – Small, Jeans – 28
The website calls this a “sleeveless cotton cardigan,” but to me it’s a vest. I’m wearing as a top here, but I think you could also wear it as a mid-layer. It runs pretty true-to-size, and this “Rich Cognac” color is a bit softer than it looks online. I’m 5’1″, and I think it’s just a little too long for my proportions, but would probably work well on someone taller. It’s 100% cotton, and available in Ivory and a very dark Navy.
Jeans update
I tried both of the jeans on my wish list, but didn’t keep either. The Frame jeans (mostly sold out) looked good, but were heavier than what I was looking for. The Madewell darted barrel jeans were too long for me overall, including in the rise, but should fit someone of average height well. They’re still available in most sizes. The jeans I’m wearing above are the AG Ex-Boyfriend, and they’re not quite as distinctly faded in front as they appear in the photo. They are still available in most sizes. (I’ve cuffed them above due to length.)
I LOVE these rag & bone sneakers for the cool retro look, yes, but especially for the comfort! One of my peeves with so many sneakers is a stiff tongue that digs into the front of my ankle. These have a super soft and cushiony foam tongue. They’re light and breathable, and the insole is removable. Run true-to-size, though if you’re between sizes or have wider feet, I’d size up 1/2. Two other colors available in this style.

The Under $100 Edit
All of the pieces shown here are under $100 during the sale!
Just a reminder, if something you had your eye on is sold out, keep it on your wish list and keep checking back. Many items will be restocked during the sale, and patience (and persistence) can pay off.
The Anniversary Sale can feel overwhelming, especially when it seems like everything disappears in the first few days. But there are still gems to be found, pieces that offer a mix of polish, comfort, and versatility. I’ll continue to keep an eye out for restocks and new finds, so be sure to check back. Have you picked up anything from the sale this year? I’d love to hear what’s caught your eye, so drop a note in the comments!

I may have had a record low in purchases from the NSale this year. Can’t call the sale a bust because many others found things to delight them. I’ve become far more selective in my purchases prioritizing need, body shape and color- few items checked the boxes. I did order a pair of gold hoops, a jacket and stocked up on favorite skin care.
Just curious, what was your decision on the Nic and Zoe jacket?
Hi Susan, I didn’t order a Nic and Zoe jacket. Can you tell me which you’re referring to? (The only jacket I purchased was the Frank & Eileen Mini-Belfast peacoat, which unfortunately sold out very quickly.)
I will be visiting San Francisco for the first time the last week of September. What should I bring (carry-on only)? Will it be cool, warm, rainy, all of the above. Trip will be casual, no fancy restaurants, but want to look polished. Thanks.
Hi Callie, San Francisco can be lovely that time of year! It’s usually mild, and I’d bring lightweight layers as SF has several “microclimates” and you may have cool ocean breezes, especially in the afternoons and evenings.
September is our “summer” meaning it’s our warmest month. Susan described it well. I suggest layers (short sleeve top, sweater, jacket). Puffer jackets (light down) are everywhere in SF because you can put them in pouch and keep it in your bag. Lots of micro climates. Fishermen’s Wharf and the east side of town can be much warmer than the west side (Golden Gate Park, DeYoung Museum). Also, it’s a pretty casual town generally. Enjoy!
You can pretty much count on no rain in the Bay Area until November! Leave your umbrella at home, but bring sturdy walking shoes — this is a walking town, and you’ll appreciate it more on foot.
San Francisco is a great September destination. In order to figure out what clothing to bring, it’s important to know whether you’ll spend all your time in the city or whether you may be in some of the warmer parts of the Bay Area for at least some of the time. If you check a weather site you’ll get an idea of the temperature differences between SF and areas like Napa, Sonoma, Palo Alto, etc. Even in September night and early morning weather in SF can be quite chilly and sometimes windy so it’s always best to bring warm layers! (People in SF joke that only tourists come to SF in shorts and tank tops!) If you plan to dress up in the evenings then it could be helpful to bring a trench coat in case it’s windy and a cashmere sweater to help with cold. A fleece is great for casual evenings.
There’s also a difference in the colors and fabrics people wear between SF and the suburbs, wine country, etc. In SF women do not generally wear summery colors or fabrics. People tend to wear dark colors like black, gray, olive, etc. or neutral colors (especially on the bottom half)–but people in the suburbs do wear brighter colors and fabrics. (I went to a classical music concert in SF in June and not one woman wore a cotton skirt or dress–but they are quite popular in the suburbs.)
As for the Nordstrom sale, it’s my favorite department store and am lucky to have a store a few miles from my house. The last few years I haven’t found much I wanted during the sale, but this year I did. I wanted to point out part of the process that failed for me. I chose a few items to pick up in store (one being a sweater that I shopped after it was featured in one of your posts). Then two days later I got an email saying it was not available for pickup. And by that time it was sold out online. Rather than switch my pick up to ship (as a cardholder there would be no shipping charge to me) they just cancelled the order. Same thing happened with a beauty item. So here’s a caveat for next year: choose to ship rather than pick up in store.
I’d send the sleeveless cardigan back. The buttonholes pull, so it would be a no-go for me, despite the question of length.
Yes, it’s not the right fit for me so it’s going back, but I did want to share it for reference.
Hi! Haven’t received my orders yet but I ordered Steve Madden Dorothea booties in the tan to match a belt bag.and I couldn’t pass up the Kut from the Kloth cuffed jeans. And the T and B pointelle raglan sleeve sweater in Ivory. And the Nordstrom leopard shirred midi dress called my name. I hope it fits!
Susan,
Thank you for narrowing down the best of the best for the NS! Regarding the Vince trousers. What size are you wearing? Thank you
Hi cynthia, thanks! I’m wearing size Small. (I’m usually a US size 6 or 28 in pants.)
I snagged a few items in the Beauty category, but the only clothing item that interested me — the Frank & Eileen Mini-Belfast Jacket — sold out immediately. Hoping it’s restocked, or else available later at full price.
What really piqued my interest, though, was the staging in the NAS print catalog. Did anyone else notice? I wrote about it: https://fritinancy.substack.com/p/return-to-the-oddly-anachronistic
Hi Nancy, I went back and looked through my print catalog after reading your article a few days ago, and found it very amusing. I think they were mostly being ironic.
Thanks for sharing! I enjoyed reading.
Thanks for helping us navigate the fashion seas. Do you ever purge your closet? If so, how often! What goes and what stays?
Hi Toni, I usually do a major closet purge and/or reorganization at the end of a season. (In California, that means twice yearly.) That way, what I’ve worn or not worn is still fresh in my mind. I wrote down some of my favorite tips to clear out an organize your wardrobe here: The Ultimate Wardrobe Detox Guide
Hi Susan: thanks for these selections! I’m going to try the Vince pants. I’m about to leave for Europe but I’ve got a friend who can pick up the package into for me. I’d love to get the R and B retro sneakers in the colors you’re featuring but I think I’m going to have to pass this time
Love the light gray cardigan! End result of my color analysis (this woman has been doing since the 80s), pegged me as a Light Summer. Not the systems that say light summers should wear ethereal pastels, (my eyes have too much drama, lean aqua); but brighter versions of the blue greens, periwinkles and roses I love. I wore a bright coral pink top I own the next day, with lots of complements. Grays are still in my wheelhouse, but going to try some bluer grays. Now I know why I loved the Eileen Fisher Wintergreen you wore in late winter, and the recent Garden Rose twinset from JCrew! My overlap is Spring, not Fall. Plus, those beautiful eggshell colors, like the JCrew pleated blouse that you modeled. I am taking the name of the color palette with a grain of salt but now know I can amp up my beloved colors, but my makeup.
Excuse typos, *compliments, *change my makeup
Thank you so much for your great post. The Nordstrom sale can overwhelm me, so I was thrilled to find several items you had shown that were still available. I purchased the Vince slacks, the Caslon jacket, cardigan and a pair of shoes. Thanks again for all you do. Love your style.
You’re very welcome, Pam! I’m glad it was helpful.
The Nordstrom website says the Caslon sweater jacket is 22 inches long, but it appears longer in the photo. Is that accurate? Also, is the ivory warm enough for an autumn? It looks just off white. Thank you for all your help in navigating the sale!
Hi Elizabeth, yes 22″ is correct. (I’m 5’1″ and very short-waisted.) I think this ivory color is fine for an Autumn. It’s a warm, creamy off-white.
Thank you, Susan!
