What’s On My Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Wish List (And Why)

I’ve been shopping the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale for about twenty-five years now. I actually discovered it by accident, after wandering into one of their stores just to buy a lipstick. Over the years, the sale has had its highs and lows; some years are full of standout pieces, while others have felt a bit lackluster. When I first previewed this year’s sale, I was concerned it might be one of the latter. But after a deeper dive, I found quite a few gems that earned a spot on my wish list.

One thing I noticed this year: there seem to be fewer offerings per brand and category, but also (thankfully) less repetition. As always, I focus on pieces that will either complement my existing wardrobe or replace longtime favorites that are ready for a refresh.

What I’ve bookmarked & why…

I’ve been on the lookout for a straight leg jean in a lighter medium wash, so want to try this style from Frame. The cotton textured sweater jacket is a great summer-to-fall transition piece. Lately I’ve been enjoying sweater vests as layering elements, and this one from Vince is such a good color! (I’m also considering this more affordable Halogen version.) Those rag & bone slingbacks are calling my name! They’re refined enough to elevate casual outfits, but still have a bit of an edge.

On Susan's Nordstrom Anniversary Sale wish list: Madewell darted barrel jeans, Frank & Eileen mini-Belfast jacket, rag & bone sneakers & bag, semi-precious stone bracelets.

That knit peacoat from Frank & Eileen was the first item I added to my wish list! It’s perfect for our mild California coastal weather. There’s also a longer version, for those who prefer. I’ve had my eye on this style of rag & bone sneakers for a while, and finally found a color combo that feels Just Right. And I love the look of that bag: the shape, the size, the interior organization! I also plan to try this lighter wash version of my favorite Madewell darted-leg jeans. I’ll decide between those and the Frame pair once I’ve had a chance to try them on.

The Elemis cleansing balm is one of my favorites; it smells wonderful and is non-drying. (That jumbo-sized jar will last me the better part of a year.)

At ease…

The Anniversary Sale is also the perfect time to stock up on basics and self-care items. My summer pajamas are due for a refresh, and I love the breathable “Moonlight Eco” fabric on this short set. I also have my eye on this cute BedHead pair for cooler nights. I picked up a Blissy silk pillowcase during last year’s sale and am getting a second. (It’s a nice little luxury that helps my hair and skin.)

Those Hanky Panky boyshorts are my daily go-to. They hold up incredibly well, but I usually take advantage of the sale to replace a few of the oldest pairs. I also restock my favorite delicates wash (I like the lavender, but there’s also an unscented version). That bottle will last me a full year! And I love my Diptyque candles; that set above has three of my favorite fragrances.

Whether you’re shopping to refresh your wardrobe, treat yourself to some beauty favorites, or just stock up on essentials, the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale can be a great opportunity—especially if you go in with a plan. I’ll be sharing try-ons and updates once my picks arrive, so stay tuned!

  1. Good choices, Susan. I hope that you enjoy them!
I have a question about the Frank & Eileen coats. My coloring is typed as “light spring” and I have grey blonde hair. I like the Sagebrush Green color of the jacket, and think it comes close to the Petrified Oak in my color scheme. Do you think it would work for me?

    1. Hi Susan, I’m not seeing that color on their website currently, so I can’t make a definitive determination. In the color system we use, Sage (or sagebrush) is in the Autumn palette, as it’s a bit softer and more earthy than Spring greens.

  2. Great choices Susan! I’ll be in Europe when the sales happen so I probably will miss out. I’m interested in the F & E Belfast jacket. Did you say that you got the XS? Thanks, Sally

  3. Hi Susan, Thank you for sharing your Nordstrom wishlist. I’ve always wanted to try the Madewell darted-leg jean but don’t see the rise in the description. Are these high-rise? I’m 5’4” and like jeans with a 11-inch rise.
Also, I love the Monica Vinader ring but have no idea my ring size. Is there an easy way to estimate your ring size at home?

    1. Hi Kathy, I don’t know the rise on this specific pair (will report back if I’m able to try them on). The only way I know of to size a ring at home is to use a piece of string, and compare the measurement with a ring size chart (you can find several online).

  4. Going to Paris in a couple of months. Could you give me two of your favorite Paris hotels?

  5. Hi Susan,
Your choices from the sale are great. I’m looking at several of the pieces. I have a question. I like small handbags and looking at a small sling. I notice you don’t do many colored ones. I’ve found a spring green one I like but on the line with it. Should I just do a neutral color? Thanks for your option.

    1. Hi Nancy, thanks! My suggestion would be to look at other handbags you’ve owned and used. If you almost always default to your neutral bags, then you’ll probably wear a neutral one more. But if you’re comfortable with colorful bags and wear them, I’d opt for color as a fun accent.

  6. Your tips for organizing have helped me sort through all the “stuff”! Somehow, I missed the Madewell darted Jean. Love barrel shape and like that lighter wash so thanks!
Question….have you worn ag ex boyfriend jean? If so, what size?

    1. Hi Linda, thanks! I’ve worn the AG ex-boyfriend jeans for a few years. I’ve worn both size 27 and 28, depending on the fabric and cut. (I’ve gone from preferring a slimmer fit to a more relaxed one.)

  7. Hi Susan,

Thank you for the helpful suggestions! I’m considering the Madewell Darted-Leg jeans. What size do you wear in these please?

  8. Definitely going to jump on the F&E Mini Belfast Peacoat. Trouble deciding between the Redwood and the Sierra Blue. Have you seen them in person? Any recommendations?

    1. Hi Jerikk, haven’t seen either color in person yet (my local store doesn’t carry F&E) but have ordered the Redwood & hope to have soon. The Redwood should be good for those who look better in warm colors (Springs & Autumns), and the blue for those who better suit cool colors (Winters & Summers). If you aren’t sure, look at the colors in your wardrobe you wear most often…are they warm or cool?
