At-Home Try-On: Reviewing My Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Purchases
I’ve been shopping the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, and in all honesty, I think the selection is a big improvement over the last several years. I’m seeing a lot of good, wearable wardrobe basics. And within that subset, more variety. Today I’m reviewing some of the items I’ve purchased, along with sizing information.
Yes, there’s a lot of brown here. It’s one of my best neutrals, and isn’t always widely available. Sticking to my own advice of “buy it when you find it,” I’m taking advantage of the sale prices to add pieces that will have staying power in my wardrobe. Most of these items were still available as of Friday. If not, don’t forget to bookmark or add to your wish list and keep checking back for restocks.
I didn’t do a lot of “styling,” as I wanted to show how everything fits as-is.
Modern, casual, classic outfit builders
This striped Pima cotton cardigan (Caslon) is a nice medium weight which will be perfect for fall or cool evenings at the beach. It’s also available in navy with white stripes and ivory with navy stripes. I think it runs a little large. I’m wearing the Small which feels slightly too big for me, have the X-Small on order.
The necklace (Lizzie Fortunato) is currently sold out, but again, check for restocks during the sale.
I’m quite pleased with these rag & bone cuffed jeans. In this photo above, they’re the original length. (I subsequently cut off about 1.5 inches, and re-cuffed them.) They are true-to-size for a slouchy fit. If you prefer a slimmer fit, you might want to size down.
I’m also pleased with these Dolce Vita loafer mules. This is the brown crinkle patent, but they’re available in several other finishes, and well under $100 during the sale! They’re easy to walk in and run true-to-size.
Satin shirt, snazzy slingbacks
I was also quite impressed with this satin blouse from Rails. The fabric is substantial and feels silky. (It’s a viscose/rayon blend.) I ordered both the Small and X-Small. Both fit but the Small gave me a little more room around the hips to be able to do a half-tuck.
Here’s how it fits untucked, (I’m 5’1″.) I’ll probably have it shortened.
These Vince slingback flats are winners too. They’re quite comfortable and can dress up or down. I’ll treat them with stain- and waterproofing spray. The strap has elastic for easy on/off, but isn’t too loose or too snug around the back of the ankle. As with most Vince shoes, sizing down to a 7 (from my usual 7.5) was a good call and the fit is perfect. These are also still available in black leather and navy suede.
Coated denim & lightweight sweater
I’m really smitten with this Vince sweater! I’m always on board for an elbow-sleeve sweater, and this one does not disappoint. It’s a very soft and light wool-cashmere blend. It’s fitted enough to go under a jacket, but not clingy. I’m wearing size Small, which is my usual in fitted sweaters. It’s also available in Charcoal, and dark navy. (Most sizes/colors still available.)
At the moment, these coated denim L’Agence pants are showing as sold out, but over the last couple of days I’ve seen some sizes intermittently back in stock. If you’re set on them, you might get lucky if you keep checking back. They’re quite comfortable and run true-to-size.
Here are 3 pants with a similar look:

🐆 🐆 🐆 Ballet flats!
I hadn’t given these a second look online as the image made them look dark and muddy. But when I saw them in the store….wow! 😍 They’re from Paul Green, so have a bit more support and cushioning than most ballet flats. Also available in Black leather and Chili (warm red) suede, they run true-to-size. (If you have a wide foot, you may want to go up 1/2 size.)
What I returned:
- the Celine sunglasses were unfortunately too wide for my narrow face. A shame, they’re really fun!
- the rag & bone collared sweater was cute, but too large (and smaller sizes sold out)
I’m waiting on delivery of a couple more items, will review those once I receive.
“All skate” access to the sale starts Monday, so get your wish list ready to go. Have you found anything good in the sale this year?

Love Bella’s paws: A true fashion accent.
Thanks for all the tips as always.
Adore all your purchases! Thanks for shopping and sharing.
100% subscribe to buying one’s colors when you find them! I found a long searched for item: navy boots! On order from Blondo, hope they fit! Also got some navy chunky Franco Sarto loafers. I have a similar black pair so high hopes for the navy. Hope these will allow me to retire my dated but comfy Sam Edelman Petty boots that I now hide under wide leg pants/jeans!
I have always shopped the Nordstrom sale, so I was really looking forward to this year’s selection. So far….I haven’t seen a single thing I don’t already own a version of or that called out my name. Maybe that’s a good thing?
Great post, Susan!
Thanks, Kathy!
You did so well!!! Amazing. I love all items on you. Especially the Vince wool cashmere sweater. Together with the coated jeans you are showing a fabulous figure.

PS Go on… order the red slingbacks too .
Thanks so much! and…yes, I did. 😉
Susan, I clicked on the link for your elegant L’Agence coated denim pants and had to laugh: they are super-cropped on the model and look terrific on you as full-length trousers! I am 5’1″ as well…
The Dolce Vita loafers are fabulous. By far the best color is the patent brown which, alas! is not me. They have such a great, retro vibe while still being current. In the cooler months would you wear these with socks? Thanks,
Bras!!! It’s time to stock up! That’s my favorite part of the sale!
Sitting out the Anniversary Sale but picking up great deals on end of summer merchandise. If anyone who finds mules slide off – the same style is available as a slingback on the Nordstrom Rack website (on sale) and I have also found Susan’s beautiful Vince green shell and cardigan on sale for half off, and available in other colors. Thanks for your inspiration!
Love all of your sale selections, especially the ballet flats. Have seen quite a few items I would love to order, but online shopping for labels I have never tried on before makes me uneasy. Still, it is great seeing what is being worn in the northern hemisphere this summer.
