Friday miscellany: catching up with myself edition
I’m a bit behind on posting, but all is well. It’s just been one of those weeks…🤪 I’m still slogging though intermittent waves of insurance stuff and other “administrative” paperwork. And I’m getting caught up with my routine checkups and screenings. Health is good, but I do need to start physical therapy for tendonitis in my right shoulder that’s been bothering me for the last year or more.
But it’s not all drudgery: I’ve begun working with color clients again, and am having so much fun helping people find their best colors! I’m also working on another big color post, look for that one soon. In the meantime, here are a few bits and bobs to wrap up the week.
Your favorite styles
Here are the most popular styles from the last couple of weeks, based on what you’ve clicked on and added to your carts.
The sweaters and boots are available in multiple colors, too.
You can always check out the latest in the Reader Favorites section in my SHOP. I update it weekly, and be sure to check out the seasonal color departments as well, which are also updated regularly.

Gimme lip…
I’m often asked about what lipstick I’m wearing in photos, and 90% of the time it’s one of these. (CHANEL Rouge Coco #416 “Coco” or #440 “Arthur”) What I love about the formula is that it’s moisturizing and a little bit sheer, so the color doesn’t enter the room before I do. But it does show up nicely in photos. Coco is more of a bright coral, and Arthur is a lovely tomato red.
I’ve been putting my Winter clients in this lipstick from By Brian, and they look amazing in it! The color is L’Opéra and the formula is also moisturizing.
Summers: try “Primaria,” a pretty cherry red.
Autumns: “Fall Crush” is beautiful for you.
I’ll have that color post up soon, I promise! Be sure to subscribe for updates and exclusive content!

In your upcoming color post (or future posts), I’d like to see how to put colors together for an anagolous, complimentary or monochromatic look using a specific season. It would be fun to see how you do this using your seasonal color wheel as in the first picture at the top of this post. Thanks! Kay
Hi Kay, I’m actually doing something along those lines for the next post…stay tuned! 😉
Thank you for all of your knowledge. Could you recommend a red lipstick for a summer? I’d really appreciate it.
Susan, I just want to thank you for your work. I appreciate you and get a lot from your advice!
Ann
Ann, I completely agree! Thank you, Susan.
Do you think Eileen Fisher’s new fall color Red Cedar is suitable for winters? It reads blue-red on my computer. Thank you.
Yes! It looks like it would be. I’m hoping to see it in person soon to verify.
Dorothy, I was wondering the same. The name is throwing me off — cedar? To me, that indicates it’s in the brown family? Not sure, but I’m looking forward to hearing Susan’s impression.
You are such a positive, inspiring woman! You’re going through all the “administrative” stuff and working on the blog and color clients. Hope you’re surrounded by love and supportive friends and family. I love all the color clues you’re providing for different seasons. Thanks for all you do!
Susan ,
Thank you so much for all the time & energy you put into showing us wonderful items. I get excited every time one is in my email box.
Can you tell me what seasons these two outfits are?
Thank you,
Terry
Hi Susan, do you have a lipstick you like for Autumn’s?
thanks
Hi Allene, yes, “Fall Crush” always looks amazing on Autumns: https://bybrian.shop/collections/lipstick/products/lipstick-fall-crush
Just curious…. which Chanel lipstick would you recommend for we cool winters? Thanks!
Hi Kathy, I haven’t swatched all of the current colors, but hope to soon.
I am very curious to know what I would be according to your analysis.

Hi Susan
I’ve been looking for a neutral red lipstick that isn’t real bright. Have you run across a lipstick that fits the bill?
Thank you!
Melanie
Hi Melanie, a true neutral red is almost by definition “bright.” Did you mean less saturated? You might want to go with a more sheer formula like the Chanel Rouge Coco, or Chantecaille Lip Chic.
Hi Susan, I just ordered the lipstick you recommended for winters! I’m sure I’ll love it. Brian+MW is having a 20% off sale right now with this code: fallcolor20
