Room With A View

Grand Canal from our Venice hotel window

We’re in Paris now, it’s early Sunday morning, and I couldn’t wait to show you just a few pictures of Venice. I feel a bit like I’m cheating on Paris, but I must say that we did fall head-over-heels for Venice, and will definitely be going back in the future.  I’ll write in detail about all of the rest of our Italy journeys, but here’s a little visual amuse bouche.

Corner table at Harry’s Bar with an $18 Bellini. We’d wandered around for an hour trying to find the place!

  1. Wonderful pics to wake up, I love the photo in Harry’s Bar – yes my small starter was 36 dollars and my main course was 90 dollars! I could not believe the prices in there but still, on a Saturday night there’s nowhere like it for It’s unpretentious buzzing atmosphere and that simple low key interior which I just love. And for once I limited myself to one Bellini!

  3. Were you staying at Ai Due Fanali? I think that’s the view of the Scalzi Bridge you’d get from the hotel. And isn’t the sotoportego in the photo the one just around the corner from the campo entrance of the hotel, with the relief carving of Simone Profeta? I am so pleased that you fell in love with Venice. My husband says that he still finds it the most magical city in Italy.

That’s such a nice photo of you at Harry’s. You’re smile is infectious–you look so happy.

    Arrivederci!

    Marie

  4. On second view, I don’t think that’s the sotoportego near the hotel. My mistake.
And apologies for my enthusiasm. I love Venice so much I go over the top.

  5. Wow! I’m feeling a bit grumpy at a conference in Fredericton, my lodgings in the middle of strip-mall land. These photos are the perfect antidote — while they could (and do) inspire sheer envy, they’re so delightful and evocative that they take the grump right out of me. And you look wonderful in that photo, just wonderful!
Say “hi” to Tish for me — sorry we missed her when we were there.

  6. You look adorable in Harry’s Bar! Yikes, $18 for a Bellini, $90 for a main, hope it’s worth the price and proximity to other touristas.

  7. I just love pictures 1 and 6!! What great paintings they would make hanging in my home!!!! Thanks for sharing…

  8. Oh, you’re so lucky! That drink is insanely expensive, but in the end you’ll remember the experience, not what it cost. Have fun with Tish!

  9. You have put Venice up a couple of notches on our short list of destinations! Love a Bellini, but $18? Paris, at last, hope it’s just what you’ve been waiting for. Enjoy, Pseu!

  10. I am so glad you love Venice and want to go back. We felt the same way!

I think we might have also visited Harry’s Bar. It is such fun wandering around and trying to find places.
