Room With A View

Sunrise over Las Vegas. No we didn’t stay up all night.

Las Vegas, is well, Las Vegas. Lots of opulence, lots of OTT style. Lots of opportunities to be parted from one’s cash.

We hadn’t made the drive from LA to LV in almost 20 years, but I’m so glad we chose to drive this time rather than fly. The weather was mostly lovely (a few rain squalls) and we had the opportunity to eat lunch here:

The Mad Greek in Baker, CA. The Gyros were quite good, and the coffee was excellent.

I was amazed at the quality of photos I was able to snap with the iPhone while zipping down the highway (le monsieur driving, of course).

We settled in, then wandered about the hotel and had a cocktail before a delicious but rather haphazard and frenetic dinner last night at a favorite seafood restaurant, then played a bit of blackjack. I don’t play to win, I play to drag out losing as long as possible, but we had good cards and actually walked away from the table having almost doubled our initial (small) pot.

Lobby at Wynn

We had to do the obligatory shot:

Bon weekend!

  1. I don’ care what folk here say about Vegas it’s just great, great fun, and has to be entered into in that spirit.
The natural landscape is truly awesome and I find all of those neon lights just thrilling.

  2. Looks like a great road trip! The country side along the way and the night view with all the lights look amazing! You’re looking very elegant all in black.

  3. Adorable photo.

So how often do you go? And what makes that the place vs. other choices? I’ve never been, you see, and keep thinking I ought to go but am not sure exactly why:).

  4. How much fun…great pictures…and thank you for taking us on your trip with you! While I do piles of laundry for extra children and prepare invitations to a wedding shower, I can dream of other places!! Have Fun!

  5. Looks wonderful!! The Wynn, right? You MUST go to the buffet for breakfast!!! Have fun!!!

    1. I’m really going to have to stop reading blots on my Kindle Fire. I miss the small print (can’t read it actually) details like you’re under the lights @ THE WYNN.

  6. I loved seeing the landscape shots. We made our first trip ever to Las Vegas last year when my husband had to speak a a legal conference. I have to say that we had NEVER planned to go–it was ok, but just ok. We had some great meals at fabulous restaurants, but gambling is not our thing—at all.

You look fabulous surrounded by those twinkling lights.

  7. A Vegas trip – I have always wanted to go to Vegas just to people watch. I would be content to park myself at a fake Parisian cafe and gaze at the crowds for hours and hours. Then dress up and stroll. Congratulations on your haul!!!

  8. Indeed, a road trip gives you the chance to see so much more, with your own pace.
Las Vegas is ready for Christmas already!

  9. I hope your packing included a swim suit. Those hotels have nice pools and even if you stay under the umbrella it’s so relaxing to take a dip and dry off while reading your favorite novel.

  10. You look lovely and seem to be enjoying yourself- congrats on actually winning at the tables! The desert shots are wonderful – enjoy!

  11. Oh, I was in LV the same weekend. I wish I had run into you in the LV crowds, I would love to have said “hi!”. Love the Mad Greek. Hope you got to see some shows. We got to Elton’s concert and Absinthe show, both at Caesar’s Palace. I also recommend stopping at the Primm Valley outlets….Williams-Sonoma!!

Another close-by trip to Hoover Dam was fascinating.
