Sale Finds…
Look what I found on sale at J.Crew this week! I was NOT looking for another pair of sandals, I swear! But these pearl-embellished beauties practically jumped off the shelf and onto my feet. They look smashing with jeans and a white linen shirt, but would also work with a dress or palazzo pants for a summer wedding or other special occasion. Those low heels make them easy to walk in, and you won’t sink into the lawn… 😆(Sizing note: I went up ½ size from my usual sandal size for best fit.)
Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Keepers
I went into the Anniversary Sale this year with only moderate expectations. There wasn’t much in the catalog that knocked my socks off, but (as often happens) a few pieces were Better in Person. All of these tick that box for “basics with interesting detail,” a hallmark of Parisienne style that I’ve been trying to emulate the past few seasons.
There are still a couple of days to shop the sale, if there’s something that caught your eye.
Footwear…
I’ve been on the hunt for some time for a pair of ankle boots in a lighter neutral color. These from Aquatalia were winners right out of the gate. They’re comfortable, good-looking and weatherproof. I liked them so much, in fact, I ordered the same style in black leather. (Those will replace my black suede ankle boots that have served me well for 3 years now, and are looking a bit shabby.)
I tried on these AGL “smoking slippers” in the store just to get a bead on how the sizing ran, and didn’t want to take them off. They’re comfortable, good-looking, and another dress-up-or-dress-down style. This metallic grey is really the best of the options.
I usually don’t go for camo print, but this is such a subtle version, and I love the sleek lines of this sneaker. It’s the same style I wore all over France a few weeks ago, and I give it high marks for comfort.
Jackets…
And this topper was a splurge, but is such a good-looking piece and will work well for cooler months in our climate. The soft shape adds a feminine element to balance the menswear-inspired print.
This is another piece that I ordered just to check sizing, but liked enough to keep. Perfect for transitional season travel! It’s very lightweight and seems to be quite water-resistant. Sizing notes say it runs large, but I found the opposite for the Petite size range: I went up to a Medium to get enough room through the shoulders to be able to wear a light sweater underneath.
Didn’t Keep But Do Recommend
Here’s another one for the Much Better In Person Than It Looks Online files. The ONLY reason I didn’t keep this jacket is because I already have a lightweight black and white jacket. Again, you have a nice balance between masculine (the houndstooth pattern) and feminine (ruched sleeve) elements. (The website says “runs large” but I didn’t find that to be true for the Petite sizes, just FYI.)
Have you found anything on sale recently that fills a gap in your wardrobe?
Update: it seems there’s a problem with adding comments. I’m having it looked into and hope to have working again shortly. I’ve also corrected the link to the raincoat.
Bon weekend!
i think I found a glitch. I know I commented on this post. No comments are shown. (And again I had to fill in all my details.
