Comfortable Cardigans for Transitional Weather: Spring Outfit Idea
I always start to feel very rushed the last week or two before I travel. Between travel prep, tax prep, and trying to get a handle on a couple of other projects, my brain is on the spin cycle. Easy is essential, but I still want to feel “present and accounted for.” So today I’m sharing a simple spring outfit idea with this cute striped cardigan.
We get the breezes…

My sizes: Cardigan – XS, Top – Small, Jeans – 28 Petite
This cardigan caught my eye on a recent visit to Madewell. They’ve been hit and miss for me the last few seasons, but lately are back on my style radar. (Not everything: there’s still a lot of Festival Girl stuff, but I am seeing some practical and wearable styles.)
Open-stitch sweaters and cardigans are both stylish and practical this time of year, when temperatures can fluctuate from one minute to the next. This 100% cotton cardigan allows for plenty of airflow, and I love the stripes! (It’s also available in a plain sand/ecru color.)
More stripe & open stitch cardigans
I’m also quite smitten with these Vince jelly mules! The footbed is leather and padded, so they’re really comfortable. Several colors available. If you’re in between sizes, size down. (For a budget-friendly option, check out this cute flat!)
How do you stay comfortable in changeable spring weather?

(I like those Quince linen pants so much, I ordered a pair in navy!)

Susan, I’m intrigued by the Quince linen pants, which look very similar to ones by Eileen Fisher (and approximately 75% cheaper…). Since I think you own both, how would you say they compare?
Thanks. And bon voyage! We’re currently in southern France and getting rain instead of the expected sun. Very disappointing!
Hi Elizabeth, I hope the weather clears up for you! I can’t speak to the longer-term longevity (yet) but though both are opaque, EF linen is slightly heavier and crisper (though not stiff) than the Quince linen, which is softer.
I have those Quince linen pants in navy and a top to match! I love how smooth and soft their linen is for my sensitive 80 year old skin. You look terrific in your outfit!
Hi Susan
I am loving all the open-weave sweaters; they are so fabulous for our California weather, and I love the textural interest they provide. Great post!
Thanks, Cindy!
That is indeed a cute cardigan. Good purchase. And the fun mules look as if they were made to go with the cardigan.
