Saturday miscellany: new sunglasses, pupdate & more

It’s been a few years since I’ve purchased a new pair of sunglasses. I usually have Transitions lenses added to my regular glasses, but they don’t always get as dark as I’d like for bright days.

Susan B. wears See Eyewear sunglasses, a green print blouse, holds dog Bella. More at une femme d'un certain age.

I’ve been on the hunt for a few weeks, and finally made it over to SEE Eyewear, where I spotted these. I am delighted with them! This is a new style, and available in 5 color combinations. SEE Eyewear has a great selection of unique, non-generic styles, and their prices aren’t astronomical. They also have a loyalty program: buy 5 pairs, get the 6th free. This isn’t a sponsored post; I’m just a huge fan of this brand!

As you can see above, my natural hair color has almost completely grown out. I’m very happy with it! There are just a few random ends that still have a little color, and they’ll probably be gone after the next haircut or two.

Bella update

Susan B. wears a green blouse, jeans, and gold loafers, sits on garden steps with dog Bella.

We had our first session with a trainer yesterday, and Bella did so well! We’re working with her to be less excitable and reactive to other dogs while out on the leash. After just an hour of work, she was much calmer and more responsive. And she was pretty tuckered out the rest of the afternoon, enough even to hold still for photos!

I purchased this shirt while in London in February. It’s from Spanish brand SIYU. I’ve had these jeans for several seasons now. The shoes are from my favorite Clergerie, and exclusive to MYTHERESA. They run about 1/2 size large. That open weave makes them very comfortable to wear even on very warm days.

Sale updates

I promise not to bombard you with Nordstrom Anniversary Sale content, but did want to follow up with a couple of things.

Caslon cotton utility jacket rust

I’ve had a chance to check out this jacket in person, and the “spice” color is definitely in the Autumn palette, an almost perfect match for Autumn’s “Rust.” It runs true-to-size; the Small fit me very well. I’m not keeping this color, but have ordered the “Peacoat” color to try, which usually matches my Spring navy.

Eileen Fisher ribbed boatneck merino sweater in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale.

This little ribbed merino sweater from Eileen Fisher is really good! Looks better in person than online, and it’s lightweight enough to pack for travel. This “Marine” color above should work for you Winters, the “Clear Water” for Summers, and the “Sea Green” for Springs and Autumns.

It has a lovely drape, and a refined look. I’m usually an XS in Eileen Fisher, but liked the fit of the XXS in this one. (Plus HERE.)

Talbots classic denim jacket in red on sale.

Meanwhile, over at Talbot’s, I ordered this jacket in the Cantaloupe color (which now seems to be mostly sold out) and am very impressed with it! A nice fit, and lightweight stretchy fabric. This red color is still available in most Misses & Petite sizes, and is an additional 40% off the sale price.

Talbot's ruffle denim jacket in jade green.

Summers, both colors of this jacket are for you! It’s available in Misses, Petite, Plus, and Plus Petite sizes, and is also an additional 40% off the sale price.

  1. Bella is so adorable. I’m glad you can provide a home for her and she can provide some joy for you. Also wanted to add how I love the gold frames on you in both your glasses and sunglasses. It’s obviously your color because it just brightens you up when you wear them. That same gold color on me is a disaster. Your color transformation, more than any other I’ve seen, has really shown me how color matters.

    1. Thanks, Kelly! This color is one of my best in the Spring palette, and fortunately also one of my favorites.

  2. Susan—You find the best clothing pieces in your color palette. I would have loved to have seen a full length shot of your outfit. What’s the fabric content of the blouse? Just wondering if it’s cotton. I find some fabrics to be clingy if they’re a softer fabric. Love your sunglasses and those shoes, I’m finding it harder to find clothing in the winter palette for petites. Love to purchase a Johnny Was kimono like you showed the other day, but some are overwhelming for a petite statute and mostly they’re in the wrong color. Wish you lived closer to help me with my wardrobe, love your natural hair color—very becoming.

    1. Hi Rose, I’ll post another outfit with this one soon. I *think* it’s rayon, but the care tag was removed when I had it shortened, so I’m not sure. I wash it in cold water and line dry.

  3. Love your hair! Such a beautiful color!
Just wanted to say thanks for including the seasonal palette choices here.

  4. Susan, your hair looks great! I am a jeans gal too, so I enjoy your blog. I like your casual, but always polished look. Thanks for all you do to help us shop for fun, accessible clothes and shoes!

  5. I love your sweet pup! Your hair is lovely as well. I’ve always associated gray hair with cooler colors. As a spring, do you think this will make you lean towards that end of your color range or is it just about skin tone? Those sunglasses are so cool!!!

    1. Hi Jill, thanks! So far, I haven’t really shifted my colors, except have been leaning into the more saturated colors in the Spring palette.

  6. Thank you for suggesting colors by seasonal palette. It is so helpful! I’m a spring, so I love seeing your personal clothing choices. You always look fantastic!

  7. Your hair looks great!
Now and then I see a photo of myself when I dyed my hair and I think maybe I liked it better colored, but that thought passes quickly when I don’t have to fiddle with it to cover up grow-out, or deal with brassy shades.
    Enjoy your freedom!
I have a pair of transition lens and I wear them, but they don’t have the poloarization property of full-on sunglasses. My eye doctor says I have the slightest beginning of cataracts and that causes glare to be amplified. Poloarized lens are much better for that kind of light.

Squinting and complaining about your eyesight is much more aging than gray hair – so buy the glasses you need!

  8. You hair came out gorgeous. I, like the commenter above, am wondering about the cool vs. warm situation. I learned color analysis years ago and that it’s about skin tone. But I’m really seeing cool undertones in your skin now. just curious if you have experimented back to cool colors just to see!!!

    1. Hi Cher, thanks! My color palette hasn’t changed, am still a Golden Spring. In fact I’m leaning into the brighter and more saturated colors in my palette.

  9. What a beautiful puppy!

And your hair is perfect — exactly the right shade for your coloring. It would be great to get an update on the hair products you’re using.

  10. Very nice post. All of these colors and styles look very good on you, especially with your hair lighter.
And how delightful to see Bella.
    Thanks.

  11. I’m smiling at all the comments saying your hair color is perfect. Of course it is! Nature matches our hair, skin, and eyes perfectly.

I agree with you re Transitions lenses. Inside they never lighten enough, and outside they don’t darken enough. I prefer separately glasses for that reason.

    1. Thanks, Bette! I do appreciate Transitions for travel, when we might be alternating between inside and out, and I don’t want to have to carry a second pair of glasses in my day bag. But at home, it’s nice to have a darker option!

  12. Bella is completely darling. I love her sweet expression. Love the sunglasses. I need prescription sunglasses though.

  13. Thanks for including “summer season “ picks! Anything you find in that season would be helpful ( all other seasons also). I find very little information on summers online. Or maybe a link to a “summer” blogger even? Fall and winter time are the most difficult to shop for summer season coloring.

    1. I’ll be doing more seasonal color palette capsules once the fall and winter merchandise starts to come online, so stay tuned…

  14. What a fantastic pair of sunglasses. I immediately showed them to Ron when you posted them on IG. He totally agreed (and he is working for a chain of opticiens and has been for 11 years, so he knows a thing or two abut glasses).
Together with rhe wonderful shirt and shoes you are a sight for sore eyes as they say in the UK.
Bella is a wonder if she responds that quickly.
