BR Peplum Sweater
Banana Republic V-Neck Peplum Sweater Also available in grey, but I think the black looks dressier.

So when this whole peplum trend hit a few seasons ago, I stayed on the sidelines and bided my time. I had a feeling I could make this look work for me, but was waiting for someone, anyone to offer a version with a deeper scoop or v-neck, anything but a crew neck. And my patience has finally paid off! This sweater from Banana Republic is a winner. Available in Regular and Petite sizes, it has a nice v-neck, (deep enough but not too deep) those 3/4 sleeves that I love, and the knit fabric has enough body to work well with the peplum design, yet isn’t stiff or bulky. It won’t break the bank either (and keep an eye out for discount offers).

This top is so flattering! I’ll post an outfit shot with it next week.

Do you have a peplum top in your wardrobe?

  1. I’ve always shunned them because they make me wide where I don’t want to be, but…these look so drapey and forgiving that I could almost see it working on me. Can’t wait to see your outfit post, Sue.

  2. I have a B&W print peplum blouse with a low bow (thus a deep but narrow v-neck) that is my go-to blouse. I wear almost year round. I have a gorgeous 3/4 sleeve v-neck cashmere cardigan that I wear with it in cooler months.I was worried about a peplum adding to my avoirdupois but amazingly its very flattering without adding bulk in the wrong places.

  3. No peplums for me, they are not flattering. I can’t wait to see your outfit shot. And I was in the bookstore yesterday and got a look at Tish’s book. I may have to read it, it seems so much better than the last book on French style I read, which shall remain nameless, and which I found just so-so. Tish’s book is going on my Xmas wish list!

    1. frugalscholar, I don’t have much of a defined waist, and I think the beauty of this top is that it gives the illusion of more waist.

  4. Ohh, that is a great top. I am also a huge fan of the three quarter sleeve! I bought a copy of Tish’s book yesterday. Good reading.

  5. Headed over to BR with my 40% off coupon to pick this up, thanks! Also, I’m 80% of the way through Tish’s book, love it. Lots of great tips and tricks. I’m headed to Paris next spring and have a list of things to pick up now!

  6. Funnily enough I was unsure about peplum tops too, however on a recent trip to London I spotted a sale on in Hobbs. Guess what I saw? A navy peplum jumper similar to yours but with a round slightly scooped neckline. I tried it on and thought it was very flattering for an over 60 femme with no waist! I would advise anyone who’s unsure to try one on too.

I’m very excited as I’ve just downloaded Tish’s book on my new PC (after finally working out how to download Kindle for PC). Can’t wait to read it!

  7. I’m a bit intimidated by them and must admit, I have never tried one on. Mostly afraid that the peplum would hit at my worst part. But the Banana Republic top is quite nice.

  8. Such a feminine style without being cutesy. I can see how it gives shape and can see how it would also look good on women who think their hips are too broad to carry it- it’s all in the depth of the peplum

  9. Bought this in grey, then ordered it in again in black both on the 40% off sale, it is very flattering and I am an hourglass. I sized up because the sleeves are tight if you work out and have a bit of muscle. It is not too short even though I am long waisted. Looks best on me with a skirt rather than pants. The knit is not skimpy either so will hide lumps and bumps.
