Taking time to recharge over the holidays

Susan B. wears EILEEN FISHER recycled cashmere top, cozy terry pants, shearling mules while Gigi looks on.

It feels like the last few weeks have passed in one fast-motion blur. We’ve been enjoying gatherings and holiday festivities with friends and family, both local and those who are visiting from out-of-town. (No complaints here; it’s been so nice to be able to celebrate in person!)

This post is sponsored by EILEEN FISHER. Some of the clothing shown was gifted (c/o). All ideas and opinions are my own.

But now the events are winding down, gifts have been bought, wrapped, and delivered, and I look forward to some less-scheduled time to just enjoy the season. I’m a social animal and love being around people, but I’ve learned to listen to and honor the need to (quietly) recharge my batteries afterward.

I’ve never been comfortable staying in my pajamas all day. On days like these, I want clothes that are as comfortable as loungewear, but that make me feel dressed enough to run a few quick errands or walk the dog.

I swear, these pants are so comfortable I never want to take them off! They’re available in several colors in regular and petite sizes. And they have pockets! I’m wearing Petite Small in the pants, Petite Small in the top.

These cozy separates from EILEEN FISHER are perfect at-home or out-and-about pieces. And they’re clothes that not only feel good on, but that I feel good about wearing. EILEEN FISHER is a brand that’s committed to sustainability and ethical manufacturing.

This EILEEN FISHER bouclé wool jacket is one of those versatile pieces that can dress up or down depending on what you wear it with. It’s a very lightweight boucle wool, also available in Black, in sizes XXS-3X. I already have more ideas to style this jacket, so look for those in future posts. Gigi loves it because it has pockets to hold treats for Good Dogs. (I’m wearing size XXS.)

Susan B. wears an EILEEN FISHER scarf, jacket, top, and pants to take Gigi for a walk.

As I mentioned last week, I’ll be taking a few days off to recharge and enjoy the rest of the holidays. Wishing you a Merry Christmas, if you’re celebrating! Back soon!

Susan and Gigi enjoy a cuddle in a favorite chair..

  1. It does look casual and chic but most important warm-and comfortable. Love the colors. Little sweetie there has got your heart. ❤️Merry Christmas.

  2. Crazy question, I know … but your leather chair looks to be the perfect size for my small living room corner. Can you share the manufacturer/vendor?

    1. Hi Karen, it’s from Pottery Barn. I’m not sure of the model as it’s probably about 12 years old now, but it’s one that reclines.

  3. Mine is an isolated Christmas as my husband has covid, (we are treble jabbed)., we are at home,in separate rooms. Cancelled is the big family Christmas we had planned. Merry Christmas to everyone else.

    1. Oh M, I feel you, except I am the one who tested positive, although I have not been indoors unmasked at all and wear a KN95. I honestly feel much better than with many colds, and I am attributing that to the three vax shots. After skipping last year, we had planned to host a smaller version of our usual Christmas Eve party, with everyone vaxxed and doing a day of rapid test. I am sad that all festivities have been cancelled and I don’t like isolating, but I am so very thankful that I have minimal symptoms, so I am choosing to focus on that positive. Best wishes to everyone for a season of rest and rejuvenation.

  4. As always, Eileen Fisher attire looks chic and comfortable!
Would you mind sharing what kind of coffee pot you have behind you in your first pic?
Wishing you joyful and healthful holidays!

    1. Hi Vicki, thanks so much! The two coffee machines I use daily are the Breville Barista Express (mine’s a few years old; here’s the current model: https://bit.ly/32kpcvp) and the Nespresso machine is an earlier model of this one: https://amzn.to/3pjl5s8.

I use the big Breville (which also grind the beans) for my morning coffee(s) and the Nespresso for decaf espresso, which I switch to in the afternoon/evening.

  5. Merry Christmas to you and yours. And so sorry to those who have Covid – I had a routine check-up yesterday, and my doctor said we’re likely all to get exposed, no matter how careful. Daggnabbit! I do love these outfits, Susan. And thank you again for all your work on the blog – my very favourite – a must-read for me!

  6. Hi Susan,

I’ve been wondering if you used the Briggs and Riley cabin bag for your recent trip that you recommended from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale? We haven’t had a chance to use it yet and are wondering if it replaces a carry-on or can work as personal item? Thanks so much for all you do. I so appreciate you sharing your thoughts! Happy Holidays, stay well!

    1. Thanks so much, Laurie! We don’t have that particular bag (le Monsieur has an earlier version). This time we used backpacks as our cabin bags, which worked very well. You can read about it here: A cabin bag review…

  7. Browsing the EF site, they have various versions of slouchy pants, some more structured than others. What color are yours? I’m liking the ivy or blue.

Happy holidays to you and to everyone!

  8. Happy holidays, Susan! Thank you for all you do with your blog. I know it takes a lot of time and effort, and I really appreciate it.

  9. If this is a sponsored post then someone from Eileen Fisher might just read the comments to see how the clothing items were received by readers…at least that is what I am hoping. I love Eileen Fisher but until she offers more than one pair of pants (I have those) in what she calls “full length” I am not buying any…..that is LOST sales. All of her current pants (but for that one style) are so darned short they look like crops on me and anyone else with long legs. Crops in snow look ridiculous never mind being cold. I am hoping that this will change and she will offer “full length” (which can be shortened but too short cannot be fixed)….and that she offers the many colours not just black and grey “sigh”

  10. I so enjoy your blog and have been very inspired by your leap into colour.
I’ll be wearing something in linen for Christmas day as the weather is going to be a lovely, sunny 27°C (80°F)
Wishing you Happy Holidays from Auckland, New Zealand.

  11. Happy Holidays. Enjoy your time resting and recharging as we say so long to 2021 and embrace the New Year. Thank you for your inspiring blog. I really appreciate you!

  12. Like you I want to be dressed even when I am at home alone. But in clothes that are warm and not clinging.
I think you found the perfect pieces. And I also saw that you are finally sponsored by Eileen Fisher. It was about time. You have always been such a fan of this brand. You introduced me to it as well.
