Favorite Outfits of the Month: Transitioning from Winter to Spring Edition
Pull up a chair, grab a mug of your favorite beverage, and let’s chat about style. Today I’m re-visiting some of my favorite outfits from the last few weeks, (and some of your favorites too). Just as I’ve found it helpful to recap my travel wardrobes, looking back at what worked during the season will help me keep my wardrobe well edited.
My favorite transitional season outfits
Warm one day, chilly the next…that’s how it goes during late winter and early spring. Layers are key, and cardigans and jackets have a big part to play.
First up, a look back at one of my favorite easy “elevated casual” outfits featuring my go-to comfort wide leg pant paired with a collared cardigan. I love how a collar adds structure to even a relaxed style.
This lightweight faux leather jacket was a bit of a swerve for me with those statement sleeves, but I really loved how this outfit came together. (The sleeves are 3/4 length, so no they don’t drag in my food. 😉) The jacket is now on sale, so here’s your chance to save if it’s something you’ve had your eye on.
When the weather says “sweater” but your mood says “spring,” adding a cashmere sweater in a light and bright color with a light neutral topper satisfies both requirements.
These coated denim pants (similar) are a perfect go-to for a more dressed-up casual look. Here I’ve styled with a shimmery gold “lady” sweater jacket, and platform oxfords.
When big wool scarf starts to feel too heavy, a silk carré is just the thing to look spring-appropriate, but keep the chill off my neck. This 100% cotton fleece peacoat is also a perfect transitional season piece!
Your favorites…
I’m totally on board with the ongoing trend of 90s minimalism this year. An expression of ‘modern minimalism’ can be found in the pairing of a functional, logo-free bag with leather loafers and a clean blazer-style denim jacket. Another relaxed take on this trend is the “lady jacket” or sweater jacket which offers a relaxed substitute for the oversized blazer.
Red is still going strong as a color trend this season, and I love it paired with pink, like this long cardigan. Silver accessories add a luxe touch, Easter brunch ready!
What are your favorite style solutions for transitional season weather?

I have great difficulty in styling in-between outfits even though I always think I have a lot of them. But, then again, I have great difficulty in styling any outfit haha.

Susan, Once again I appreciate your insight and suggestions but I hope you will return to adding which colors are best for certain seasons. Thank you!
love the outfits!
You know, I realized this morning that following your blog all these years has been a very fun and informative experience. I know I keep thanking you over and over again–but really, I’ve learned so much! And I’ve had fun along the way. I’m slowly learning (good grief, at 77!) what really works for me in looks and likes and when I can break the ‘rules’. Because of my lifestyle I mostly run around in Vuori clothing. My ‘real’ clothes come out for dinners out, friends and family visits and travel. I’m due for another closet editing but won’t be doing that for another month or so. I’m considering ordering a rolling wardrobe rack. Thanks Susan, for all you do.
Excellent post! Thank you for the lovely selection of transitional pieces with a good range of price points, styles, colors, etc. I am a minimalist so I appreciate the fresh approach and inspiration you provide with beneficial photos of various outfits, links, and info that is most helpful for updating my wardrobe.
Love heavy cardigans in transition -also blazers! Mmmm. My favorite looks atop a crisp white shirt, or long-sleeved tee shirt or light weight cashmere crew neck sweaters.
