Room With A View: Levernois

View from our room in Levernois, France. Details at une femme d'un certain age.

Greetings from the beautiful Bourgogne countryside! We had a long travel day yesterday; our flight from London to Lyon was delayed by several hours, and then we had a two-hour drive from Lyon to Beaune. We arrived just in time to have a quick bite and then crash.

We’re in an “attic” room that overlooks the building rooftop and the park across the street. It’s just lovely! (It was dark when we arrived last night, so I’ll take some room pictures today.)

Travel Day Outfit

Susan B of une femme d'un certain age dressed comfortably for a long haul flight.

Here’s what I wore for our first travel day. Not the most interesting outfit, but it was comfortable for the duration (which ended up being about 24 hours, door-to-door).

Wearing: Cardigan | Tee | Pants | Boots (similar)

Travel wardrobe packed in carry-on sized bag using packing cubes. Details at une femme d'un certain age.

For those who expressed doubts that my travel wardrobe would fit in a carry-on, here you go. Everything fits and there’s still a little room to spare.

However, as you can see from the airport photo above, since I was going to check my main bag anyway, I decided to use the larger bag, (it’s only 1/2 full) so we’d have room to bring home some wine and other goodies.

We’re off to breakfast, but here’s a little bit of pretty from the garden here…(be sure to turn your sound on…)

We’re going to get out and explore today, maybe even borrow a couple of the bikes they have here. Back tomorrow with more images from this lovely spot!

  1. It’s so warm here that even seeing your scarf has me sweating. We’ll adapt soon; the warm has only just begun.
The garden shots are gorgeous. Enjoy!!!
In that neck of the woods, I can recommend Auberge du Camp Romain (as the name suggests, it was the site of a Roman encampment), at Chassey-le-Camp. Dinner with a view. Also in the same village, Domaine Moréteaux….

    1. It was actually a little chilly when we left LA. And the forecasts have shifted radically in the last 36 hours or so…now it looks like we’re in for a major heatwave next week in Paris. 🙁

  2. Ugh always such a long day of travel no matter where you are going. But what a stunning destination! Looking forward to seeing more photos x

      1. They were not resolving and were hanging on a blank screen. The cardigan link was working. I just tried them again and they worked. Thanks!

    1. It’s Lipault. I bought one of their carry-on bags after Susan highly recommended them, and I agree, my bag is wonderful. Sturdy, roomy, spinner wheels, fits in most overhead compartments.

    2. Hi Vicki, it’s this Lipault spinner. It’s been a great choice since I started traveling with my DSLR camera and lenses, which add a lot of weight. Not having to carry it is a back-saver!

      1. I love the bag. Have you had any trouble with airlines using this as a carry on since it has wheels? I had an Lugg bag that I used for years. Perfect size and fit under seat and overhead. However recently had some trouble with gate agent about the wheels. (I did have another caddy on as well)

Love the pictures! We were in Beaune a couple of years ago and loved it! Enjoy!

        1. Hi Phyllis, not at all. It’s fit in the overhead bin every time. That said, I know some budget airlines are notoriously stingy with bag sizes, so check their allowances first.

  3. Cute booties! I’m having a love-affair with booties right now after having found a pair. Good to see you traveling: it’s a great activity.

  4. Beaune is so beautiful – years ago I biked from Lyon to Dijon and really fell in love with the whole area. Enjoy your trip and as I remember, Lyon has great food and shopping.

  5. We stayed in a lovely rental home just down the street from where you are; Levernois is a great spot as you feel like you are in the country and yet are only a quick drive from the center of Beaune. We were there at exactly this time last year and had great weather – I hope that you do, too. I look forward to reliving that great trip through your photos. Enjoy!

  6. Re your Lipault “carry on”…. is it the 15”
‘Business’ ? Have been considering this
one …. BTW – I love your blog, your suggestions and the quick links to great buys! Thanks! My daughter used to live in Paris – in South Africa for last 5 yrs – now in Spain shopping areas/houses for relocation! I travel a lot to keep up w her!

  7. I love following your travels, and I hope to get back to France soon. As a notorious overpacker, I would love a blog entry on what and how exactly you pack into each of your travel cubes, and how you manage toiletries, cosmetics and hair products and appliances.

    1. Hi lillypie, thanks! What I pack in each cube really depends on the trip, but I’ll try to break this one down sometime in the next few days. Here’s a post on how I’ve packed my toiletries/cosmetics: Packing Toiletries and Cosmetics I usually don’t pack hair appliances; my hair requires almost no styling and hotels always seem to have blow dryers.

  8. Is the Lupault the 16″ “business” style?

Enjoy the Beaune/Burgandy area! We’ve been there twice! Just returned from 2 wks in Avignon – (2nd trip there too) – next trip to the “Dordogne” area! Any suggestions / recommendations from any of you Francophiles?

  9. Even in your ” not the most interesting outfit”, I’ll bet you were not only comfortable but probably one of the best dressed on the plane. Avoir un fabuleux voyage!

  10. Are your shoes also in your carry on bag? If so, what’s in the big bag that’s half full? Just curious, because 3 or 4 pairs of my size 9+ shoes/booties would almost fill my carry on.

  11. J’adore les images et les sons. Ca m’apporte de la nostalgie pour plusieurs voyages en France, de l’age de 19 ans jusqu’a l’annee derniere. j’appelle ce vert le vert francais. Merci!

  12. From LAX to (late) springtime in France. That is a major transition! I have never done the Lyon airport, just Geneva, but our family destination in equidistant between the two, so maybe we can try that.

  13. Lipault-usa.com is currently having a great sale, with pieces like the one Sue shows on sale.
I use a Lipault 20-22” carryon for my 3 week trips abroad and like its lightweight expandability (with a large Longchamps expandable Pliage bag as my personal item, into which I stash my lightweight Baggalini crossbody purse during the flight).
