Une femme recommends…

Chanel’s Rouge Coco. There’s been much hype about the release of this new line of Chanel lipsticks, and I finally had a chance to try it over the weekend. This is touted as both a moisturizing and long-wear lippie (yeah, and I believe in unicorns, too) so I was skeptical. But the colors looked really rich and gorgeous, so had to give it a try.

It does go on lighter (and dryer) than some lipsticks and glosses, so at first I was afraid it would be drying on my lips. But it did seem to soften them and I didn’t get that dried out feeling that most long-wear lip colors usually generate. “Long-wearing” is a relative term; this won’t wear as long as those stain type lip colors, but it does wear much longer than glosses or most moisturizing lipsticks that I’ve tried. I tend to reapply lipstick or gloss every couple of hours just to keep my lips from feeling dry, but don’t have that urge as often with this product.

The colors seem to be fairly saturated, so those who prefer sheer or barely-there lips may find this too strong a look. As Dear Cherie has recommended, I stick with the “satin” finish (no frost, no matte) although the Rouge Coco line also has colors with these finishes if you prefer. The color I chose (La Pausa) is a nice natural-tending-toward-coral color. I may have to go back and try one of their reds; they look luscious!

  1. You’ve tempted me. I will check this line out. It would be nice to have a lipstick that lasted an didn’t leave my lips feeling like dehydrated strips of beef jerky.

  2. You are too wonderful, Pseu.

Cherie only regrets she didn’t read this post before she popped into Sephora today. Did you buy the “bitten lip” color or were you more daring?

She was tempted by the newish Dior lipstick with collagen which promises to plump, moisturize and probably make dinner, but in an aside the very lovely saleswoman said the following: “It tastes a little bit like mint and it makes your lips a tiny bit fuller.” Cherie, ever the vigilant shopper, replied,”does it really?”

“Plump your lips you mean?” (Well obviously what else, if Cherie wanted mint she’d eat a Tic-Tac.) “No,” she said, “if you want big lips you have to do it with a syringe.”

    “Merci for the tip.”

    Et voila, Cherie’s day.

  3. That’s Not My Age – Chanel has several colors right now that are very pretty but subtle and won’t give you “color shock.” If this line is too much color, try their Aqualumiere line which is more sheer.

LBR – oh, they have some great colors I think you’d really like!

hostess of humble bungalow – I love that Legende color on you! I’m going to have to go try that one.

  4. metscan – I’ll have a look at that one too. So many great lipsticks, so little time!

LPC – I’ve been meaning to try that YSL gloss. A lot of people seem to like it.

Semi Expat – let us know what you think!

  5. Tish Jett – unfortunately, my “just bitten” color makes me look dead when worn as a lipstick. I tend to go for something just a wee tiny bit brighter than what nature gave me, and find it’s more flattering. So true about the plumpers! They may tingle or even burn, but that’s about it. Better that than Trout Pout, though!

  6. I´m not sure if we have the new lipsticks here yet, but my absolute favorite is Chanel, Rouge allure: Provocative. Luckily it is still in production as well as Dior´s lip liner: Holiday red. I have used both of these for a few years, nonstop.

  7. I used to only wear Chanel lipstick. Now I’m addicted to that MAC long-lasting color I have. But maybe I’ll stop by the Chanel counter again and give it a try!

  8. DP, between your post and looking at the “suite” of Rouge Coco propaganda on the Chanel website, I just HAD to get one. I sprung for the Taffetas Rose color, which is a very cool fuchsia that is so soft and pretty and perfect for spring that I just might die.

Have you looked at the Vanessa Paradis film short, behind-the-scenes coverage, and formula info on the Chanel website? It is extremely effective marketing.

Today was my first use of Rouge Coco. I had a Vanessa moment and sung “What a Day for a Daydream” while applying it. ;o)

  9. That’s a pretty color.

Try Glam Girl Naturals Cosmetics lipsticks if you want a gluten-free lipstick that is natural mineral makeup, and is a cruelty-free cosmetic, that is also 95% vegan.
