Wednesday miscellany: food, drinks & old Hollywood
I haven’t quite made good on my commitment to try at least one new recipe each week. Ok, I haven’t even come close. 😂 But some of the best (and easiest) recipes I’ve tried recently have been from the Faster Way to Fat Loss weekly meal guides.
These meal guides are usually only available to FWTFL members, but they’re currently offering a free Holiday Meal Guide with over a dozen healthy and tasty recipes. I’ve already printed out a few to try that look easy and delicious, like the Smoked Salmon bites shown above.
The guide also includes information about some of the basics of the Faster Way to Fat Loss program, including health benefits of intermittent fasting, and why building lean body mass is so important (especially as we age). If you’ve been curious about the program, or just would like some new recipes to try, it’s free and there’s no obligation.
Yes, I’m still on the program, and will be posting a progress report later this month. (If you do decide you’d like to try the program, there’s a new community round starting on January 4.)
Mocktail Hour
I’m always on the hunt for non-alcoholic beverage options that aren’t too sweet or caloric, and can satisfy my “cocktail tooth.” Karen turned me on to this one, Skin Te, and I’m loving it. It’s delicious and refreshing, and has collagen, which can improve skin’s elasticity, as well as strengthening connective tissue and bones.
I enjoy mine over ice in a swanky cocktail glass.
What we’re watching…
Le Monsieur and I both really enjoyed “Mank” on Netflix. It’s (loosely) the story of Herman Mankiewicz and how he came to write the screenplay for “Citizen Kane.” We thought the writing and acting were brilliant, and loved the cinematography and production (right down to the corner blips where a reel change would have been).
Some film buffs may find that it takes a few liberties with actual events and relationships, but just like films from the Golden Age of Hollywood, you’ll enjoy it most if you can suspend disbelief.
We’ve also been watching Season 7 of “Engrenages” (Spiral) and think it stands up well to prior seasons. Episodes are released weekly, and we’re halfway through the season.
We’ve watched the first two (short) seasons of Whitechapel, and while we find the plots a bit silly, there are some fun characters.
Just in case you hesitated during the Cyber Week sales and are experiencing non-buyer’s regret 😉, another wave of sales has kicked in.

I joined the Faster Way To Fat Loss in late September. It turned out to one of the best things I could for myself in a long time. The program focuses on health and body fitness and the weight loss follows. So far, I have had more energy and lost weight. (The program specifically asks that you stay away from the scale and focus on non-scale wins.)
Karen is a fantastic coach! She is supportive with motivation and tips for one’s journey in the program.
Thanks, Susan, for highlighting this program. It has made a big difference for my path in getting healthier, more fit and losing weight.
On another note, I think I am a bit late to this TV watching party, but I just finished watching Little Fires Everywhere on Hulu. Whoa. It was intense. Loved it.
After watching the short makeup video showing you applying the Chanel Les Beiges Water Fresh Tint, I was intrigued enough to order some. I haven’t been so happy with a product in a long time. It goes on so easily and really brightens my face and lifts my spirits.that’s a lot to say for a foundation, but it’s true. Thank you Susan for the video. You should do more of these.
I’m watching a tv series on Netflix, SIlvana, that I just love. You have to read subtitles but I don’t mind. It is in Spanish so you might not need them if you speak Spanish. You inspired me to start watching foreign films. Some are really good.
Im always looking for a tinted moisturizer that is super light and Chanel water fresh tint sounds nice. I’ll have to check it out.
Thanks for the movie recommendations! It’s really helping my spirits! I’m outside exercising a lot, because of closures, I could use some ideas for waterproof boots for lots of walking. We have no snow, but it is 32-40 in the morning, and it will rain soon. And I’m meeting friends outside more than inside on zoom, so warm coats and jackets, gloves and hats needed, any ideas?
Hi Eileen, I’m working on a boot post, look for it soon!
If you haven’t watched it already, I HIGHLY recommend Borgen on Netflix. We are watching it all the way through for the second time and it is just as good.
I loved Borgen! I speak Norwegian so it was fun to read the subtitles and see how much I could understand of the Danish.
Sue you have done so well on the FASTer Way because you have WORKED the program! You realize that changing your body composition and metabolism takes TIME and consistency. I’m so glad you have felt so full and satisfied, that’s because you’re eating lots of lean protein, healthy hormone supporting carbs, and clean fats— all in balance which is KEY. I’m curious to see how your next doc visit goes. And I am thrilled you are happy with your stronger, leaner body!! Win win!! You have been a joy to coach!
Thanks so much, Karen! It’s made such a difference having a coach and mentor!
If you loved “Borgen”on Netflix, you need to next watch “Herrens Veje”. It is by the same creator, Adam Price, Danish. It’s Fantastic.
I was really looking forward to Mank but I could hardly see it. It was so dark. Everything else was really good. We finished the two seasons of Prey on Peacock; great acting, great stories, and really interesting. I bought the Chanel make up too! I haven’t tried it yet but I want something easy and fast. I think it will be a “go to” during our humid summers here in the South.
I joined the Faster Way program on your recommendation and love it! I’ve lost some weight and feel more energized and healthy without feeling deprived in any way.Karen has been a great coach. Thank You!
