Winter wardrobe basics on sale

It’s so much easier to get dressed with a good capsule of wardrobe basics. They’re the pieces we reach for the most, and are the backbone of a cohesive wardrobe. They also tend to be the pieces that are marked down less often, so when I approach a sale, it’s those basics I always scan for first.

It does feel like sales have been “on blast” pretty much since October. Still, we’re getting to the end-of-season phase, where you can sometimes take advantage of deep discounts. Here are a few things I turned up…

Talbot’s

Talbot’s Red Hanger sale is on, with an extra 40% off sale items. They offer many of their styles in a range of sizes (Misses, Petite, Plus, Plus Petite) and can be a good first stop for wardrobe basics for those of us who aren’t standard sizes.

This notch-collar sweater-blazer is offered in the full range of sizes, and several colors. I’m a fan of sweater jackets, and find them easy to style.

Many of you have mentioned that you’re looking for full-length pants. This style is even offered in Misses Long, and still available in several sizes. (Other colors and size ranges too.)

Two styles you often request to see more of are longer sweaters and v-neck sweaters. This merino wool v-neck is available in several colors.

Lands’ End

Another good first stop for wardrobe basics, Lands’ End currently has up to 70% off your order with code HOLLY.

This lightweight cashmere crewneck was one of my MVP’s on our recent trip to Italy. While it’s not as deeply discounted as some items, I think the quality is very good and it’s reasonably priced. Several colors available in Misses, Petites and Plus sizes.

I have an earlier version of this packable down coat, and still love it. It’s warm but not bulky, nicely shaped, water-resistant, and travels well. Available in more colors in Regular, Petite, Tall, as well as Plus and Petite Plus.

Nordstrom

If there’s something you’ve had your eye on, you might want to check back to see if it’s included in their big Half-Yearly sale.

If you are ok with a shorter length, this cute 100% cotton sweater is available in sizes XS-Large.

There’s a pretty decent selection of shoes and boots included in the sale. These Blondo waterproof booties are very budget-friendly.

Here’s a really good-looking style from Vionic.

Though it may or may not be a winter wardrobe piece for you, a denim jacket can be a casual wardrobe workhorse. I like the medium wash and lack of distressing on this one, made from organic cotton.

There’s also quite a bit of Eileen Fisher included in the sale, though some sizes are limited.

J.Crew

J.Crew has cashmere marked down, which doesn’t happen often. I have last year’s version of this sweater in a few colors, and it’s a winter staple! Sizes XX-Small to 3X.

This cable knit v-neck could go from casual to “evening out” in 60 seconds, depending on how you style it. Sizes XX-Small to 3X.

Everlane

Everlane’s End of Year sale is now on. This collared alpaca cardigan rings in under $100, and is available in several colors, sizes XXS-L (XL seems to be mostly sold out).

Though this isn’t really a winter item, I love these organic cotton tees and didn’t want you to miss out. Select colors are just $11! That offset stripe adds a fun element, and they’re available in several colors.

And at 60% off, these Italian leather Chelsea boots are quite a steal.
