What I love this week: cashmere, beauty buys & more

We’re home now from our short staycation and getting back into routines. I’ll write more about our getaway next week. But today I just wanted to share a few random things I thought might be of interest…

Women’s cashmere sweaters on sale

J.Crew often excludes cashmere from their promotions, but just put a bunch of their cashmere sweaters on sale, in addition to the one I’m wearing above. (I wore this sweater quite often during our getaway.)

I’m a fan of their classic crewneck style, which I own in several colors. It’s my go-to during cooler months for everyday wear. This style is available in XX-Small to 3X (some colors are sold out in some sizes). I find these sweaters wash well and are comfortable in a range of temperatures. This beauty tool is THE BEST…

I always curl my eyelashes, even on days when I’m not wearing makeup. It opens up my eyes and makes me look more awake & alert. A few years ago, a sales associate at the Chanel counter at Nordstrom recommended this one, and I loved it. But when I went to replace it a year or so later (having gone through all of the replacement pads) they told me it had been discontinued.

I later learned that Chanel boutiques usually stock them, but they always seemed to be sold out whenever I happened to visit. On a whim, I tried again in Beverly Hills this week and got lucky! I’ve used several different curlers over the years, and it just blows my mind how much better this one works!

Another favorite product that’s been hit-and-miss to find lately is the travel size of Oribé Dry Texturizing Spray. After some experimentation with my new-ish cut, this is the one styling product I use with any regularity. I was happy to be able to re-stock my travel size spray this week.

We’ve been watching…

Wednesday (Addams) on Netflix

As a child, The Addams Family was one of my favorite shows, and Wednesday was always my favorite character. (Back when I wore a lot of black, I used to joke that she was my first style muse.) Last week we watched the entire first (I hope) season of Wednesday, and really enjoyed it (even if we guessed some of the major plot points a few episodes in). Jenna Ortega is perfect as a teenage Wednesday. And Catherine Zeta-Jones holds her own as Morticia (Angelica Huston left some big shoes to fill in that role).

And the costuming is great too. I’m sure Wednesday’s “high fashion Goth” is going to inspire some trends…If you enjoy some creepy (but not *too* gruesome) fun, check it out.

And speaking of costumes, Emily in Paris returns for Season 3 on December 21…

  1. Hmmm, I thought Wednesday might be disappointing. A sequel usually does, but you give a good review, so I will check it out.

  2. Susan, I’m not an impulse shopper, in fact lately I am trying to shop my closet as much as possible as I downsize a wardrobeful of things I rarely wear. But when I saw the Sezane LUDIVINE JUMPER in last week’s posting I just had to have it. I placed the order on a Sunday and the package was on my porch in Pennsylvania when I got home Tuesday night. From FRANCE!! How is this possible? I couldn’t be happier with this purchase. I know I’ll get several wearings this holiday season and for years to come. I love the casual way you styled it with the white coat and camel trousers on your Beverley Hills staycation. I’ll be copying that look and also plan to glam it up a bit for New Years Eve.
The purchase also included a lagniappe: a charming little makeup bag, in a “French country” print. Thanks for that link!

    1. Hi Claudia, I’m so glad you to hear like the sweater! Thanks for letting me know, and hope you have a joyful holiday season!

      1. I’ve never used an eyelash curler! First of all I don’t ever see improvement when someone else does it for me. Secondly, I have to buy eye lash straighteners because my eyelashes are so tightly curled. My whole life since teenage years‍♀️
