Out and about in Beverly Hills

So maybe it’s a bit hokey, but we thought it would be fun to take our “staycation” in Beverly Hills. We figured there would be plentiful holiday decorations, lots of great restaurants within walking distance, and it’s just a few miles from home. Here are a couple of my casual staycation outfits…

Staycation outfit 1: casual sightseeing day…

Even though we weren’t going far, and luggage wasn’t really an issue, I still decided to go with a small and mostly neutral capsule to keep things simple. I’ll share the entire thing later this week (I packed at the last minute, so didn’t have a chance to photograph). For four days/nights, I brought 3 pants, 3 sweaters, 1 long-sleeve tee, 2 jackets, 1 coat, 2 pairs ankle boots, 1 pair sneakers. And scarves, of course!

I’ve been wearing this leopard print scarf from BLACK almost constantly since we arrived. It’s a cashmere-silk blend, so it’s warm but soft and lightweight, comfortable indoors & out. These scarves make fabulous gifts, but be sure to order *no later than December 10* for guaranteed holiday delivery!

Staycation outfit 2: out to dinner

Wore this to dinner last night. It’s been getting quite chilly at night, so I’m glad I brought a warmer coat as well as the short jackets.

I’m wearing 6 Petite in the coat, XS in the sweater, and size 28 in the corduroy jeans. Some of you reported that you received an error message when trying to purchase this sweater over the weekend. The glitch on the website has now been fixed, so you should be able to add to your basket without a problem. And all sizes (XXS-XXXL) still seem to be available!

The bag is kind of an “off” color, but I like that it breaks up the tonal look a bit. It’s one of those colors (“Banana” in my Spring palette) that plays like a color with neutrals, but can look neutral when worn with a more colorful outfit. It’s also surprisingly light for a chain handle bag!

For a more budget-friendly option, check out this style from Tory Burch (on sale!).

  1. So funny but we just did a staycation in Beverly Hills! We love the Maybourne Hotel- all the staff are exceptional and breakfast in the park feels like a little like being in Paris.

    1. It is a little itchy just at the neckline, and I’m probably going to try it with a silk scarf or bandana. It doesn’t bother me enough that I wouldn’t still wear it, though.

  2. We did a staycation at the JW Marriott in Scottsdale, Arizona and had access to the Griffen Club. It was really fun. It was hot so we enjoyed the lazy “river” on the property. At Christmas they have a gigantic gingerbread display and great decorations. Scottsdale and surrounding area has lots to do. Tucson is not too far from us so we sometimes consider it a staycation too. It is easy driving distance. I love your sweater (jumper) and the coat!!!

  3. That sweater is fabulous! Worth an itchy neck, although I’d probably be wearing a turtleneck under it – problem solved.

  4. It’s called a staycation for a reason and there’s nothing hokey about Beverly Hills!!! When we lived in Northern California, my favorite part was that we could drive to awesome destinations in a few hours and spend a night or come back home same day!!!! You are fortunate to have that option!!!!

  5. Fun Susan! We’re staycationing in lovely Healdsburg after having a fun artistic dinner last night. I’m wondering what size you got for your Suzanne cardigan? They have a rosewood (autumn) and I’m interested! 🙂

      1. First of all, thanks for the color recommendations, Susan. That rosewood is my favorite color, Sally. I’m really confused by the sizing now. I would have ordered a medium based off of the Sezane size chart. 5’2″, 121#, 36A.

        1. I often size down in Sezane knitwear. That said, I’ve ordered this Gaspard style in another color in a Small just to compare the two sizes.

          1. My son was in the store minutes ago, it was about to close! 7 hour time difference for me! The sales clerk guessed size small. He photographed the wall of sweaters and Wow!, gorgeous colors! The exterior is decorated beautifully for the holidays.

  6. I love the second outfit with the longer coat. I wouldn never have come up with this combination. Soooo chic, so French, especially with that statement bag, which is the dead give-away of the true French style. I am glad I have a friend who spends even more on a bag than I do haha.
    Have a lovely time.

  7. We love staycations.Living 45 minutes North of San Diego there are so many options. We just adopted a perfect 3 year old Golden Retriever so it is hard to leave her till I find the perfect sitter. She could come with & will but not everywhere. I love your outfits but am still a black pant, dress & skirt gal with a colored accents in my scarves, handbags and cardigans/ jackets.
I would love to know where you stayed and dined.
You look glowing and very pretty in all your photos.

  8. Could you please remind me how to schedule a color analysis with you when I’m visiting your area? For now I’d appreciate an email regarding pricing, amount of time together, location, etc.

    Thank you!

  9. Susan thank you for all your suggestions. The scarf is outstanding. The texture and lightness of the fabric is so comfortable.

  10. We do. We live on LI with a small town vibe and going into NYC to stay is always a treat. Great ethnic restaurants, great museums and of course the theater. We usually do it for our anniversary in July, but NY this time of year is gorgeous, but very crowded. In the summer people leave though there are still tourists galore. It’s an easy drive depending on traffic. We’ve taken the train in but I hate changing trains with luggage.

  11. We live in Louisville but had never visited the gorgeous horse farms around Lexington. We stayed in an historic B&B in Harrodsburg and toured several bourbon distilleries. But the highlight was Lane’s End Farm where Queen Elizabeth bred her mares for many years- it was featured in The Crown. We were there in May when foals were still with their mothers. One of our best experiences!
Susan, did you get the YSL bag in Paris? I love the banana color and soft leather. Please share your story behind this special purchase. I may try to find it when we go to Italy next year.

  12. Palm Springs. There’s a new hotel downtown and lots of fabulous restaurants, not to mention a Johnny Was store. The art museum is small but good, and the 40 foot tall Marilyn Monroe out front is great for pictures!

  13. Napa/Sonoma wine country, coastal areas such as Bodega Bay and Half Moon Bay. Pre-pandemic, I received a birthday present of an overnight at one of the Union Square hotels and was able to play tourist in my own city.

Love the puzzle bag though not the price, is there a less expensive alternative?

    1. Hi sf-dre, because the construction of the puzzle bag is really unique, I haven’t been able to find something with the same structure at a lower price. However, here are some styles with a similar look and size: Madewell, Hobo, Madewell.
