Beauty & The Beast: Sale Picks for Madame et Monsieur

Clarins double serum set in Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. Details at une femme d'un certain age.

Pamper yourself…

If you’re a fan of Clarins Double Serum, this is a good value. A full size and travel size of the serum, plus a travel size eye firming balm.

Silk pillowcases in Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. Details at une femme d'un certain age.

I’ve been using a silk pillowcase for a few years now. They are better for your hair and skin, and reduce “bedhead” and sleep creases on the face. Here’s a set of two.

Oribe gold lust dry shampoo and texturizing spray. Details at une femme d'un certain age.

I LOVE Oribe texturizing spray. It gives my fine hair some body and texture. I don’t often use a dry shampoo but if you do, this one is well reviewed, and the price of this set is about what you’d pay for the texturizing spray alone.

Charlotte Tilbury Red Carpet skincare set. Details at une femme d'un certain age.

Finally, I’m a big fan of Charlotte Tilbury skincare, and have this set on order. With three full-size products included, it’s a great value!

Le Monsieur’s Sale Picks

Vince striped polo shirt in the Nordstrom Anniversary sale. Details at une femme d'un certain age.

He loves Vince polo shirts and tees, for both the lightweight fabric and the fit and quality. Some of his older ones are getting a bit worn, so he was happy to find a couple of options in the sale. Above, this polo is available in four different stripe color combinations. He also ordered one of these solid polos, and a henley tee.

Majestic men's robe in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. Details at une femme d'un certain age.

Le Monsieur is loathe to admit it, but his bathrobe really needs to be replaced. I’ve ordered this one for him to try.

AllSaints men's camp shirt with Hawaiian print. Details at une femme d'un certain age.

He likes this shirt and would have ordered it, but already has a couple of similar ones.

Jeune Homme update…

Fortunately, he remains asymptomatic after testing positive for Covid-19 a couple of weeks ago. He had another test this week, and we’re just awaiting results. If it’s negative, we should be able to see him again.

Do you have any plans this weekend?

  1. Thanks for the info on Clarins, I love the serum and travel size would help when we are able to go again.
Feeling rather disoriented with the news of Brenda, as I am sure you are as well. You actually knew her physically and in real life. So very sad.

      1. I too felt as if I knew her. In fact, I live a couple of hours from Sonoma, and had hoped that on one of my trips into San Francisco after the pandemic is in control, I might have the opportunity to swing over there and meet her for coffee. I was stunned and deeply saddened by this loss.

  2. THE Link for Charlotte tilbury seems incorrect. I am still stunned about Brenda. I would like to hear more details as to how it happened as a way of processing it, but it’s none of my business. The letter from her daughters is beautiful. It’s so sad and makes me realize my life challenges are nothing in comparison. I loved her blog Forbes her unique writing style and pi positivity.

  3. I only follow a few blogs, this one obvs which I love, and Brenda Kinsel was another which I loved. I’m stunned and hope that her family realises how much she will be missed worldwide! I’m in Wales in the UK and read American and Canadian blogs and some others to get a little glimpse into other people’s lives and culture. I feel so, so sad for such a premature loss and can’t believe that we shall never hear from her again. What a loss….

  4. I was so stunned to hear about Brenda. I emailed her last spring asking for career advice and I was so surprised when she actually replied – so kind and thoughtful and generous. She even offered to give me advice over the phone but we never were able to coordinate. What a loss!

  7. As your other readers have said, I am also shocked and saddened about the news about Brenda, she – like you, was a joy to follow and you both have the unique gift of connecting in an authentic way with your readers. I am so glad that your son continues to show no symptoms and I hope that you get those negative test results soon so you can visit.

    1. Hi Eve, it probably does reduce shine a little bit, because it’s adding a rougher texture to the hair. And thank you.

  8. I was shocked and saddened after reading the letter from Brenda Kinsel’s daughters. I loved her writing style. She seemed to be kind and gracious. I am also hoping for that negative test for your son so that you can see him.

  9. I am sorry to hear of the loss of your friend, Brenda. I’m not sure I have seen her blog. But, I am very happy that your son is still asymptomatic. Hopefully his test will be negative and you will be able to visit him soon.
