A camel and white outfit for casual elegance - une femme d'un certain âge

One of my favorite Fall outfits is now on sale…

Susan B. wears a fringed ruana with a camel turtleneck and white jeans. Details at une femme d'un certain age.

I really love this image, and not only because I love this color combo. But just as I sat for this photo, I heard the honking of geese overhead. I looked up to see a flock of them flying south in a V formation. The sun was low in the sky, and illuminated their undersides, casting a golden glow. It was magical, one of those perfect Fall moments. And this photo will always remind me of it.

If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen this outfit already, but I wanted to share it here because it’s all now 40% off (the boots are 20% off).

I’ve always loved tonal outfits with camel and soft white, and think it’s such an elegant mix. I really like the freshness of white jeans in the fall and winter. You don’t often see me wearing turtlenecks, but this one in Coolmax fabric is really comfortable. The fringed ruana is also really soft and light, and can be arranged a few different ways.

You are glowing in these colors. My equivalent would be gray and soft white.

The sweater sleeves fit even though it’s not petite? I haven’t worn a turtle neck in years. This one reminds me of the “Vaccaro” sweaters that were popular among the girls when I was in jr high.

My favorite photo of all of your outfits. I agree, you just glow in these colors. I’ve discovered these warm colors and feel they fit me too. No more dreary colors in my life. Clothes need to spark joy too. Now I enjoy getting dressed. Color matters a lot. I m going to click through and look at this ruana. I win a camel/brown one but I love the lightness of this one.

Gosh, this outfit is wonderful. The colors are lovely and it hits that perfect balance of relaxed and polished. One of my all time favorites that I’ve seen you post.

We are similar in coloring although I am 5’7” and weigh 160. The outfit is your best! If I hadn’t purchased so many of what you suggested, I would snap this up. My husband is starting to get a little irritated with ALL the packages that are clothes for me! Oh well….have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

I have noticed that when you wear these golden colors they seem to take years off your apparent age. The money you spent to have your colors analyzed was money well spent, Susan. I would never have believed color would affect appearance so dramatically until seeing it happen with you. Have enjoyed your journey. Thanks for sharing and Happy Thanksgiving!

LOVE THIS LOOK!!! My autumn/winter white jeans are baby cords with a warming layer underneath and a big cozy WRAP of some sort. Susan, in the future, could you please do a post on the difference between a wrap, poncho, ruana, etc.? Shopping on line, it’s sometimes difficult to figure out “what’s what”…and also, what are the buzz words for fabric content? For example, I like the wrap item that has a slit in it for my neck, and when it’s “woven” like a blanket, rather than “stretchy” like a sweater. Thanks, in advance, for you and this blog! You’re helping me live my best life! Feeling GRATEFUL!!

Dear Susan, I loved this post. You look so happy in the photo. I loved geese flying over moment you shared. It was like a moment of peace. Ha! I do not own a pair of white jeans. They would be covered with spots immediately! But they are for sure cute. Thank you for a perfect day before Thanksgiving post!

That ruana is beautiful and perfect for our southern California weather. It’s also not wool, so I could wear it. The cocoon shape is different and interesting.

You are absolutely glowing in the photo – your happiness with the geese, the Fall weather and the colors. Camel goes with so many other colors. We have geese in our area (upstate SC) and LOVE to hear them flying over, honking. Or, gathered in a parking lot. They always remind me of Christmas. The only thing missing is the red bow. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.
