Brighten Your Spring Wardrobe with Colorful Styles
No matter if spring is already blooming in your neighborhood or still teasing its arrival, there’s no better time to infuse your wardrobe with a splash of color. The right hues—not just trendy, but truly flattering for your skin tone—can instantly brighten your look and your mood. Lately, I’ve spotted some gorgeous pieces in a rainbow of shades to suit every seasonal palette. And the best part? Many are on sale. Read on for my favorite colorful finds to help you step stylishly into spring.
Good day, sunshine
Springs, here’s one for you! This sunny yellow has always been one of my favorite colors. As I kid, I always used to dash for the bright yellow bumper car at the amusement park. Turns out, it’s one of my best colors to wear too. I don’t see it often, so snap it up when I find in a style that works for me.
This cotton-linen blend shirt from Madewell is a petite-friendly style. It does run quite big though, so size down. It will be a lovely wafty top for warmer days.

Over the Memorial Day Weekend (May 24-26), I’ll be co-hosting a special color event with Manina from Red Leopard, here in West Los Angeles. We’ve been doing this event annually, and it’s such a blast! In addition to all of the colorful fun, there will be refreshments and special guests. Great post! As a dark winter I do struggle this time of year. My plan is to lighten up my dark jewels with lots of white, so thank you for the Madewell shirt! My big splurge of the season is the EF linen shirt dress in Blackberry. I was pretty gobsmacked to actually see something (1) in my color (2) with waist definition and (3) available in petite! I’m sure I will add more in that color, the sangria and the lapis/ cobalt blue available everywhere this season. I for one have been craving color! Like you I have learned to stock up on my colors when I see them! I believe that one’s seasonal colors are always “in” for them!
Hello Susan: I have ordered the butter yellow (read primrose) shoes from Madewell using your link. Yellow is a favorite shade for me and so hard to find in the summer yellow. Please keep Primrose in mind if you see it in other items. Love all that you show. You are so classically chic. Thank you.
Thanks so much, Mary! I’m keeping an eye out for yellows for all seasons.
Susan,
This colorful post brings a big smile on a gloomy Midwest Saturday. Thank you!
A color question on the Frank and Eileen Mini Belfast– Is Rose a color that can work for Springs?
And have you seen the Petal in person? Hard to tell how muted (or not) it is.
Thanks,
Linda
Hi Linda, I haven’t seen either of these in person. It can be challenging to judge F&E colors online, as they often use filters that distort the colors. On my monitor, the Rose looks like more of a Winter pink, but a Blue Spring (on the coolest end of the palette) might be able to wear it. Petal looks like it could be close to Shell Pink in the Spring palette.
I needed this shot of spring today, as winter lingers with snow showers again. Thank you! Can’t wait!
Also, thank you Susan, for ditching black in your personal wardrobe and sticking with it. This aligns with what I have done as a fellow Spring. It’s way too harsh on me. I won’t buy it even if the winter coats in stores are only available in black!
I noticed that some other non-Winter bloggers turned their backs on black a few years ago, then reversed. Thank you for continuing to show us that wearing our best colors is possible and a better choice. Your perspective is much appreciated and unique.
Please will you remind me which of the BLACK “leopard” scarves are for Summers; I’ve dithered for a long time but think I need to jump! If BLACK noted your season recommendations they might sell even more if their lovely products.
Hi Alison, you don’t mention whether you prefer a print or solid scarf, so are one of each that could work for a Summer palette: https://bit.ly/442JpTU , https://bit.ly/4jhJ9Fd ,
Lately I have been buying clothes which are not right for me in terms of colour, but by adding a top, earrings, necklace or a scarf in the right colour(s) for me, I can wear them. Now I need to figure out what a nice four for me (autumn?) is to brighten up a long ice blue/grey jacket.

Hi Susan, wondering about the Black liberty scarves for a warm autumn. It seemed like the new floral quartet might be the best. The others seemed too bright? What do you think?
Hi stephanie, of the new collection I think the floral quartet is the most likely to work for an Autumn.
