Bright & Breezy Styles for Warmer Days Ahead (In Every Seasonal Palette!)

Warmer days are just around the corner, so I’ve rounded up some colorful summer styles for women. And because so many of you have mentioned that you find it helpful, I’ve organized them by seasonal color palette.

The power of color

Every time I work with a color client, I’m reminded of just how enlivening and energizing color can be. There’s always a moment in the color draping process where we hit one of their “wow” colors that’s like flipping on a light switch. It’s magic. They glow. And often gasp, and then smile.

Building a cohesive wardrobe in your best colors

Building a wardrobe in your seasonal palette (Spring, Summer, Autumn, or Winter) can take some time. Not every color is available every season, so think of it as a long-term, ongoing process. And as I tell my color clients, when you do find something in one of your best colors that also suits your style, snap it up!

But, once you have a good foundation of pieces in your palette, you’ll find that it’s easier to get dressed, as the colors work together. You can do more with less. (And it’s easier to put together travel capsule wardrobes!) So I like to periodically feature some current season items with seasonal color palette recommendations.

Spring & summer styles by seasonal color palette

In warmer months, a colorful top or dress can be a great way to add visual interest to your outfits. I’ve included several styles with sleeves, as I know many of you prefer them, but you can often find short-sleeved or sleeveless options in the same colors. Here are a few colorful tops and dresses, broken down by color season…

Winter palette

I keep hearing from Winters that you have trouble finding clothes in your colors this time of year, let’s start with you.

Green continues to be a big color trend this season, and that includes a lot of Winter’s Emerald greens.

I’ve also been seeing a good number of pinks, reds, and purples from the Winter palette.

And of course, Cobalt/Royal Blue…

Spring palette

The last few seasons have been really good for Spring greens.

LIGHTWEIGHT WOOL-BLEND CARDIGAN

Various shades of peach, apricot, orange, and warm red are also making an appearance.

I’m not seeing much Spring aqua/seafoam this season, but here’s a classic polo shirt in a lovely aquamarine…

Summer palette

Summers, you’ll find lots of your soft blue and white this time of year. That’s a given, so I thought I’d focus on some of your other colors for more variety.

Autumn Palette

Autumns, you have some really lovely options too. Let’s start with one I’m really excited about for you…

This “Aegean” color from Eileen Fisher ranges from your Kingfisher to Marine Navy, depending on the fabric. There are a lot of pieces available in this color, and will look gorgeous with browns, olives, camel, as well.

More in “Aegean”

I always find a lot of olives and sages, here are a few that caught my eye…

  1. Thanks Sue! I snatched up the chiffon roll up sleeve blouse in Segovia Black/Pink on sale!

  2. In spring of 2021, Manina of Red Leopard, helped me find out I was a warm Autumn…so useful to have my little book of colours to refer to. Now, I am well versed on what suits me, and my eye only goes to clothes in my palette. Your clients will have the same experience when you two are working together later in May. Have fun!

  3. Thank you for posting the colors currently available by season. I greatly appreciate it and it is very helpful! Thank you for our session! I had my colors done virtually with Red Leopard and I was confident that I was an autumn. However, I struggled with my wow colors….because I felt that was very important to me. I was able to be in LA last week and had an in person session with Susan with the drapes. It was truly amazing and very insightful!!! My results were crystal clear;). I highly recommend having your colors done and to anyone considering it, I say YES YES YES! It is truly an investment in yourself and your confidence!

  4. Hi Susan,
Love your posts. Thank you for all of your hard work & suggestions. The organic tee from Everlane listed in the winter section looks wonderful. But I cannot tell what colors would work for a Spring. Would you share the colors that would work please. what colors work for a Spring. cannot tell what colors would work for a Spring.
    Thank you,
    Terry

    1. Unfortunately at the moment there’s not a lot for Springs in that one. Both the Carob and Burnt Sugar are workable neutrals for both Springs and Autumns.

  5. Knowing your best colours is so important for buying clothes and for styling. I love that miss green colour.

  6. Can I find out more on season color? I was shown to be an autumn in the early 80’s when “Color Me Beautiful” came out. I have since aged and become gray but I don’t think my yellow skin tones have changed. Now there are various adjectives connected to the season. Has my season changed with age?

    1. Hi Suzanne, we find that someone’s actual season almost never changes with age or when they go gray, but their best colors in the seasonal palette and best contrast levels may change.

  7. I am so thrilled to have found your blog! I am at a certain age and am currently revamping my wardrobe after recently having my seasonal color analysis done, discovering that I am a golden spring. My spirit absolutely resonates with your style and seasonal palette. I will be following you closely for color and style tips!
