Look du Jour: A Little Daytime Sparkle
Sometimes the occasion calls for something casual, but a little zhuzshed up. Today’s outfit is a blazer and jeans look, but with a little extra ✨✨✨
Maybe it’s a birthday party, or brunch with the girls. Relaxed, but festive. A sharp little linen jacket, jewelry with a bit of sparkle, and metallic flats take this denim look up a notch.
Casual look with added sparkle
I absolutely LOVE this cropped linen blazer from Madewell. It’s the same cut as the plaid blazer I styled 3 ways here. The blazer is also available in white, in Standard and Plus sizes. It’s a nice cut for Petites, though the sleeves may be a little long. (I like to roll mine up anyway, so not a issue for me.)
The jeans are also from Madewell, these are the “low slung straight” style. Though don’t let the name scare you off; they fit as more of a mid-rise. They have a nice relaxed straight fit* through the legs, not too wide or slim. And they are full length! They’re available in Standard, Petite, and Tall sizes.
*a little fuller and more relaxed through the legs than the J.Crew Classic Straight jeans.
Citrine is one of my very favorite stones, so I was smitten with these new pieces from French Kande! (gifted) The necklace features the “Ange” (Angel) medallion. It’s a nice statement piece without being too chunky or heavy. The faceted citrine stones on the bracelet along with the set-in crystals on the boucle pendant catch the light nicely!
Slingbacks can be a great closed-toe footwear option for warmer weather. I think this low-heeled style can be worn with everything from jeans to special occasion looks (and won’t sink into the grass at those outdoor events!). The gold (or silver) metallic is fun and festive, but they’re also available in several other colors. They run about 1/2 size large.
Do you have any special events coming up in the next few weeks?

That blazer is such a pretty color on you!
I love this outfit on you….I wish they were my colors! This is such a nice look for you; it looks better on you than it does on the Madewell models! Have a good day!
The jacket is perfect on you — color, fabric, length, style. Love!
Separately, would you consider a post on what to wear to an outside, casual, brewery event in TEXAS in the SUMMER?? In other words, casual but unbearably hot? I’m stumped. I hate to be hot, I don’t wear sleeveless, and the crowd will be mostly young adults in their 30s. What would you wear, Susan?
Thanks so much, Bette! For your brewery event I’d suggest a linen dress or separates. (I’ll be posting more on linen soon…) Or a little eyelet top like this one: https://bit.ly/3y5QCEF
Linen. Of course! EF has some beautiful (for me) colors this year, I’ll check there (and my closet, LOL). I look forward to your upcoming post, thank you!
Hi Susan,
Was about to purchase the jacket, but it’s a final sale, & care says “spot clean.” Have you washed or dry cleaned yours?
I haven’t yet cleaned it, but the care tag inside the jacket says “dry clean,” which makes sense. I’d feel confident about having it dry cleaned.
What a fantastic outfit. I love everything about it. The jacket, the jeans, the shoes and the jewellery. You did so well!!

Thanks so much, Greetje!
Hi Susan
You are nailing your zhuzshed up looks! I’m going to borrow your concept as I live in pants, mostly jeans, and we’re heading into winter.
Another gorgeous colour on you. I love those metallic sling backs too.
Best wishes
Julie xx
That jacket is absolutely perfect on you!
Thank you!
That jacket is great on you, Susan! Is it right for non-petites?
I’m going to my niece’s wedding in August in Brooklyn. I keep looking for dressy blue spring dresses, but no luck yet. Any ideas?
Hi Ann, I think non-petite women could wear this jacket, probably best with a high rise jean or trouser.
