A few things I bought from the Cyber Week Sales

Frances Valentine wool swing jacket in Navy. Details at une femme d'un certain age.

I did a lot of perusing, but not a lot of purchasing over the weekend. Mostly because I don’t need much at the moment. And I’ve done pretty well during the periodic Fall sales to beef up my cool season wardrobe. But I did find a few things…

First, the most splurgy. I’m nuts for a swing jacket, and have been eyeing this one for months. When the sale kicked in at Frances Valentine, I saw this was included and jumped. It’s different than any other jackets currently in my wardrobe. Not sure whether it will work for me, but it’s not a final sale item, so returnable.

Talbots Audrey cashmere sweater in Ivory. Details at une femme d'un certain age.

One wardrobe gap I’ve recently identified: lightweight sweaters for layering in light neutral colors. I purchased this cashmere sweater last year in a camel color and it’s held up well, so wanted to try this year’s version in Ivory. It’s still 50% off, and available in Misses, Petite, Plus and Plus Petite sizes.

Lands End crewneck cashmere sweater in Vicuna heather. Details at une femme d'un certain age.

It’s been a while since I’ve purchased any Lands’ End cashmere, but with 60% off and Petite sizing available, I decided to try this crewneck. (I’m looking for the sweater equivalent of a long-sleeved tee, and this seems workable.) It’s offered in several colors in Misses, Petite, Tall and Plus sizes.

Dean Davidson Manhattan brushed gold huggie earrings. Details at une femme d'un certain age.

I’ve had my eye on these Dean Davidson brushed gold huggie earrings so decided to bite while they were 30% off (today’s the last day…)

Serge Lutens "Chergui" fragrance. Details at une femme d'un certain age.

Finally, my bottle of “Chergui” was running low, so I decided to see if I could find it on sale. Violet Grey had it at 20% off, and the discount is still good through today.

and one that was tempting, but…

Coach Charlie bucket bag at 50% off. Details at une femme d'un certain age.

If you like clean and classic (“old school”) Coach bags, this 2-compartment bucket bag is a no-brainer at 50% off. Several colors still available. I decided to pass, as a) it’s similar enough to a bag I already own and b) I have my eye on something else, still deciding.

A few things I’ve had my eye on weren’t included in the sales, so I’ll keep “hovering” and see if I get lucky next month.

  1. Wow, I love that short swing jacket. And the other swing jackets on the site, too. Frances Valentine, Kate Spade’s niece, didn’t you and I attend her “show” at Fashion Week that time????

    1. Ah, I went back and looked it up, not the same designer whose show we attended. But yes, the aesthetic is very similar!

  2. I have a gap in lighter colors in sweaters since I’ve moving my colors to a warmer and lighter look. Inspired by you, of course. I think ivory and camel may be what I’m looking for or if they have them in a cream that would also work. These days all sweaters in the middle class range are thin. You don’t have to look hard. I have trouble finding one that’ looks decent for a 38 bust but for laying it’s fine.

  3. Love the swing silhouette. I invested in the Rhonda brown & rust plaid jacket by Velvet by Graham & Spencer. Even on sale, it was an investment but I have been drawn to it for months. Can’t wait for it to come. & hoping the fit works. I keep telling myself to buy better & buy less & have been good about just filling in gaps in my wardrobe with items I really love – color, style & fit all need to be on point.

  4. Santa had already brought our gifts so I could wrap them & put the under the tree; he needs less to do on Christmas Eve, so I help him out (my Mother always told me that if you ever stop believing in Santa you will never get gifts, so I’ll keep believing). The only thing I needed was some lounge wear to wear in the evening & the morning before I get dresses; I found a great J. Crew jogger pants, cotton-cashmere & the sweatshirt in cotton-cashmere both in heather turquoise. These are going to be soft; I know what I will be wearing Christmas morning! Great picks Susan!!!

  5. I love that swing jacket. I have two in my wardrobe – one in black and white and one in leopard print. They work so well with dresses and skirts and slacks.

  6. Tory Burch is having incredible sales on their website, even on some of their classics like ballet flats and iconic bags. My $600 cart (regular price) came to $185. These are wants, not needs, but still thinking about it as the prices are so good and the items so classic.
