A Going-Out Look in Light Neutrals

I have a series of out-of-town visitors cycling through over the next few weeks, so have been prepping some “out to dinner” outfits for a variety of venues. Here I’ve gone for a tonal outfit with ecru jeans.

Ecru jeans outfit

This time of year, I really like to bring more light neutrals into the rotation. When it comes to white or ecru jeans, I avoid very fitted styles, and prefer a more relaxed cut. These are the Slim Wide-Leg jeans from J.Crew, and I’m wearing a Classic size 28. I’m 5’1″ with proportionally long legs, and these hit right below the ankle on me. They’re also available in Petite and Tall sizes.

I’ve topped them with an off-white knit waistcoat/vest from Alex Mill. I’m wearing size Small. And the relaxed blazer is one I purchased in Paris a couple of years ago from Comptoir des Cotonnieres. Here’s a blazer with a similar look.

More relaxed blazers:

If your color palette is cool (Winters and Summers), look for white instead of ecru jeans, and cool neutrals to finish the outfit.

I’m still catching up with myself after our 3-day Red Leopard Color Event over the weekend. It was such fun and we met so many lovely people! Here’s a quick snippet with some of the highlights; I’ll be writing more about it soon!

  1. You absolutely rock this look. The way that you mix the colours and textures is so clever, it really elevates the outfit. Also, thank you for the advice re linen. I’ve washed the tops and there is already a huge improvement. I never realised that they starched linen.

  2. I love tonal outfits and this is a lovely one Susan. I wonder if you have tips for those of us who do not have flat tummies like you and can’t tuck in or wear waist length tops. I’m not a fan of a “half tuck” especially for less casual events. What might you suggest for covering a bit?

  3. Loving the pale neutrals too! You look exceptionally chic whether it’s the pant style or the blazer or the complete effect- very nice !
I’m leaning toward neutrals too these past few years ( taupe, cinnamon, all the light beiges). Along with white/ivory it seems to work!

  4. Love this outfit! Great colors on you. So summery and cool, yet polished. Enjoy your visitors and nights out.
