Breezy & Chic: My Favorite Eyelet Tops for Staying Cool This Summer
If you’ve been telling me how HOT it already is where you are, I hear you! 🌞 Staying cool and stylish in summer’s heat isn’t always easy, so I’m always on the lookout for clothing that delivers on both fronts. Enter eyelet—also known as Broderie Anglaise—one of this season’s standout trends. It’s breezy, chic, and comes in just about every color and style you can imagine. Read on to see my favorite eyelet tops (and a few accessories) for women that will keep you cool and looking fabulous.
Chic & breezy eyelet tops

My sizes: Top – X-Small, Pants – Petite Small
This cotton camp shirt would be comfortable on even the most sweltering days, thanks to the feather-weight fabric and openwork eyelet details. The ivory color works for Springs and Autumns. Available in four colors, sizes XX-Small to X-Large. (Plus sizes here in a pretty light blue.)
When I first showed these linen pants, many of you mentioned that they were already mostly sold out. I’m happy to see that they seem to have been restocked, and almost all sizes in Regular, Petite, and Tall lengths are still available!

👉 Style tip. Eyelet sometimes can skew a bit twee, so I’ve been happy to see so many options that lean more grown-up and sophisticated. Stick to simple styles without ruffles or other fussy details for a chic and refined look.
More eyelet tops for women

Embroidered oversized shirt – $148
If your summer style is clean, simple, and relaxed, this 100% cotton shirt will be one you reach for on repeat. Sizes XX-Small to XX-Large.
Ivory linen-blend shirt – $99
One of my style clients fell head over heels for this elegant shirt, and it’s no wonder! It can be worn as either a shirt or lightweight topper over a tank or camisole. The openwork is really well done. Sizes XX-Small to XX-Large and it does run large, so size down.

Floral pattern eyelet shirt – $188
Here’s another one you can wear on its own without fear of overexposure. This 100% cotton shirt is also available in black, sizes X-Small to X-Large.
Scallop-edge eyelet shirt – $168

Organic cotton camp shirt – $128
Summers, here’s a pretty blue for you! This classic camp shirt is available in 4 colors (including white), sizes XS-XXL.

Eyelet sleeves in woven cotton zhuzsh up a simple white tee. Also in black and dusty pink, sizes X-Small to X-Large.

This cap sleeve tee is available in five colors, sizes 0-22. I like the keyhole detail in back and scallop trim on the sleeves and neckline.
This bright blue is good for you Winters.
Embroidered wide sleeve tee – $58
A relaxed fit makes this an easy choice for casual days. Also in white, sizes XX-Small to XX-Large.

Embroidered cotton shirt – $139
I love the fun, colorful embroidery on this one! 100% cotton, sizes X-Small to X-Large.
Knit Broderie top – $92
Here’s another pretty t-shirt alternative! This raspberry pink would work for both Winters and Summers, also available in white. Sizes 2-22.

Eyelet accessories

Organic cotton eyelet bandana – $22
Add some panache to your simple summer outfits. Wear around the neck or tie in your hair or on your bag. This sapphire blue is great for Winters; there’s also a light olive green for Autumns, and white.
Mary Jane flats – $328
I’ve also been noticing eyelet/grommet details on footwear. These fun flats from Tory Burch are also available in black.

What a great post. I too love eyelet but am not a fan of ruffles and froo froo. You found some great options that I have not spotted. That olive green farm rio number is calling my name!
Eyelet is not something that appeals to me, so I’ll let this trend pass me by .

I think you nailed it with the top and linen pants (feminine with sporty, great juxtiposition for us mature women who want to look stylish, yet not too over done)…..I love the 100% cotton shirt in the summer (no cotton blends or ruffles) and linen on the bottom.
Thank you, great post.
Universal Standard have some cute options as well.
I did not pull the trigger on their Memorial Day sale & am second guessing myself as they were pretty cute.
I bought those BR yellow pants from your earlier recommendation, and I want to wear them every day and night—they are perfect! Many thanks for the tip.
Nice tops. I don’t like twee either, but these are just right. I really like the bandana! So unexpected but it works, and I can’t get enough blue.
Hi Susan
I really enjoy your posts. Thank you for all the help you give us. I just ordered the cotton camp shirt. It looks fabulous on you. I love eyelet so hope it’s a good addition to summer wardrobe. Carol F.
Eyelet, gingham, polka dots all remind me of my childhood, and I try to find ways to wear them now, minus the twee factor.
How about some seersucker finds in an upcoming post? I love seersucker in the summer!
Love that top on you! I’ve been searching for eyelet/cutwork as well; when I saw J. Crew’s “Gamine” shirt I thought of you, of course. https://www.jcrew.com/p/womens/categories/clothing/matching-sets/CK076
Hi Nancy, thanks and yes I love that one! Just wish there were more color options.
FYI The latest Sundance catalog has many open work items, including eyelet, lace, and crochet. Lovely article as always Susan. I look forward to seeing your emails!
Thanks for letting us know the Banana Republic pants are restocked. The XS went quickly so I’ve ordered a small with fingers crossed. Trying to implement what I learned in my wonderful color/style session!
I love all these eyelet tops.
