Just in time for warmer weather, my sale picks

The Memorial Day Sales are already up and running, and I’ve been perusing some of your favorite brands and mine. If you’re looking to update your summer wardrobe, here are a few of my Memorial Day sale picks (and yes, a few things I bought too…)

My picks from the Memorial Day sales (most are size-inclusive!)

Madewell linen blend popover stripe shirt.

This breezy, subtly striped linen-blend popover top (in 3 colors) is available in Misses and Plus sizes. It’s 25% off with code LONGWEEKEND.

J.Crew packable raffia straw hat.

I’m very tempted by this packable raffia hat, available in 2 sizes. It’s 30% off with code SUMMER.

Madewell Marianna long puff sleeve dress in faded shale. in

I’ve been getting lots of requests to show more midi- and maxi-length dresses, so have been keeping my eyes open. This easy cotton dress is available in Misses, Petite, and Plus sizes, and two colors. It’s currently 25% off with code LONGWEEKEND. (This color looks online to be in the softer end of the Autumn palette, but I haven’t yet seen it in person.)

J.Crew slub cotton t-shirt dress.

Add a little jacket, cardigan, or wrap, and this slub cotton dress can go from poolside to dinner. It’s available in 4 colors, sizes XX-Small to 2X, and is 30% off with code SUMMER. (This coral color could work for both Spring and Autumn palettes…)

Talbot's tiered maxi-dress watercolor print.

It’s currently hard to find maxi-length dresses that aren’t tiered and/or billowy. This one is tiered, but not too “prairie,” available in Misses, Petite, and Plus sizes. This lavender color could work for you Summers; there’s also an aqua color offered that looks Spring to me. It’s 30% off (no code needed).

Boden jersey maxi skirt palm tree print

If you’re a Winter, there’s no shortage of black dresses, but here’s a fun print skirt in jersey that’s not tiered, and it has pockets! It’s currently 15% off, and available in sizes 2-16/18. (Other solid colors too, and also some sizes in Petite.)

And I’ve done some shopping, too…

Madewell fisherman sandals brown.

I’ve been on the hunt for a pair of closed-toe fisherman sandals that aren’t too clunky looking. These have potential, and I’ve ordered a couple of sizes to try. 25% off with code LONGWEEKEND. More sandals HERE.

J.Crew linen blend seaside pants in stripe.

These linen-blend pants are a nice weight, and available in several colors in Misses (XX-Small to 3X), Petite and Tall sizes. These stripes are fun too (and very CG…) 30% off with code SUMMER. (This style is FINAL sale, just a heads-up.)

J.Crew linen tank top with olive pants and yellow knot bag.

I like to have a couple of tank tops on hand for layering, or wearing on their own when it’s sweltering. These linen “muscle” tanks have enough coverage on the shoulders to avoid peek-a-boo bra straps. Several colors available in sizes XX-Small to 3X. Also 30% off with code SUMMER.

I also really like the linen tees, HERE and HERE. They do run large, so I suggest sizing down.

Nutribullet pro 900-watt blender on sale.

And what would summer be without smoothies? My cheapie “bullet” blender just threw in the towel, so I decided to take advantage of the sale price and sprung for one of these. (A good friend has one and gives it two thumbs up…) Take an extra 10% off the sale price with code MEMORIALDAY.

  1. A head’s up, the JCrew stripe linen pants pictured are on sale (final closeout – not returns), the solid color pants, Susan mention the Almond Biscotti shade, are NOT on sale. Perhaps by July 4th.

  2. A note about the Boden skirt with pockets — the sizes are UK, so sizes 2 to 16/18 translates for North Americans to 6 to 12/14. I love the idea of pockets in a skirt but was disappointed to see that their petite sizes in that skirt don’t seem to go beyond UK size 12 (US size 8), and the model wearing the skirt in the photo above is 5’9″ and wearing a size 2. I am 5’5 and wear size 10, so I’m out of luck.

    1. Hi Johanna, the link goes to the US site; the sizes reflected are US sizes. That said, yes their sizes are more limited than some of the other sites I’ve linked to here.

      1. I am a 12/14 US and Boden definitely has those sizes. Some are sold out in Petite but the size run goes beyond 8 US. The regular size run is to 14 US.

  3. Thank you for the tip about linen tees getting softer with time. Mine has reached the non-scratchy stage now, so I decided to keep it.

  4. I am really appreciating your pointers on which colours are likely to suit each seasonal coloring. And the practical aspects of some of the clothing you show – shapes, material and styling. Thank you.

  5. Hi Susan,

I’m a long time reader and want to let you know that you’ve now moved into first place as my favorite fashion blogger because you are now including notes on the seasonal palettes of the garments you show. I love this change!!! I also love that you’re not showing fast fashion items and super trendy things. Thank you, too, for not just showing your own season. I’m a dark summer and love seeing what you think belong in the summer category, as well as what doesn’t. My biggest struggle is identifying what category/season different navy blues fall into – both online and in person. Before my analysis, I assumed any navy was safe for me, but now I know differently. If you wouldn’t mind assessing Talbot’s “indigo blue” for it’s seasonal leaning, I’d be very appreciative!
    Thank you!

  6. Hi Susan,

Thank you so much for the information on sales and styles. It is very nice to have someone else make some suggestions so I don’t fall into too much of a rut.

FYI – I was looking at QVC and I saw the LOGO by Lori Goldstein Rayon 230 Printed 3/4 Sleeve Top (A489031) in Everglade Green.
This looks like your color palette. I am a Warm Autumn and those colors might work for me as well. I have a few tops from this line but nothing in the Rayon 230 fabric so I can’t give more comments about it.

    Regards,
    Maggie
