Your favorites & mine on sale: summer kickoff edition

Here in the States, the long Memorial day weekend is often regarded as the unofficial start of summer. Long weekends often mean great sales too, with “percent off purchase” markdowns on a wide selection, including new seasonal styles. If you’ve had something on your wish list, it’s a good time to circle back and check for discounts.

I took a quick pass through the Memorial Day weekend sales from a few of our favorite retailers, and found some of our favorite styles included…

On sale this weekend…

Talbot’s

Talbot’s has 30% off your purchase, including new arrivals. I bought these relaxed chinos last year and was SO impressed with the fit and quality. I wore them often during warmer weather, and probably will again this year. They’re available in a bunch of colors, in Misses, Petite, Plus and Plus Petite sizes. (They run true-to-size; I’m wearing Petite 6.)

Many of you were interested in this longer cotton tee with a flattering scoop neck and elbow sleeves. It’s also offered in several colors, in Misses, Petite, Plus and Plus Petite sizes. (The “violet rose” color here would be good for Winters.)

Madewell

Madwell has 30% off your purchase with code WARMUP. If a lightweight, casual-but-not-oversized blazer is on your wish list, this one is really worth a look. And with the additional 30% off, it’s quite reasonably priced. Misses sizes XX-Small to XX-Large. The color is less yellow than it looks on the website, but still probably best for Springs and Autumns.

I previously shared this cute cotton cardigan in the Heather Lavender color for Summers. But the “Brown Sugar” color is a nice neutral for Springs and Autumns. And Autumns, check out the “Coastal Sea” color which looks close to your Marine Navy! In Misses and Plus sizes. Remember to use code WARMUP for 30% off.

J.Crew

J.Crew has a boatload of summer-friendly styles at 40% off with code WEEKEND. I love the “bought on vacation” vibe of these simple flat sandals. I went with gold, because of course, but they’re also available in 3 neutral colors. I’d suggest going with your regular shoe size.

Select colors of this soft cotton gauze shirt are marked down up to 40%. It’s available in Misses sizes 00-24. If you’re looking for an alternative to linen that breathes but doesn’t wrinkle as readily, you may find cotton gauze fabrics work for you.

If it’s too hot for long sleeves where you are, here’s a short-sleeved popover style (also 40% off). And a cotton gauze popover-style dress. (Pink color in the dress is marked down, others full-price.)

The slim elbow sleeves and shoulder button detail add refinement to this cotton tee. Four colors, sizes XX-Small to 3x (some sizes not available in all colors). Suggest sizing up if you prefer a less snug fit.

The “burnished olive” color is good for Autumns. Both Autumns and Springs could probably wear the brown. The Navy is in between Winter and Spring navy, so do with that what you will. 😉

Eileen Fisher

Eileen Fisher is offering an additional 30% off sale items this weekend. A lot of what’s there are cooler weather pieces, but I did want to share this silk blouse in Pacifica, which in this fabric comes in between Kingfisher and Marine Navy in the Autumn palette. (Other pieces in this shade lean more toward Summer navy.)

This color is included in the sale and still available in most sizes.

J.Jill

J.Jill has 30% off linen and jewelry for the Memorial Day weekend. Many of you have mentioned that you favor dresses during the warmer months, but prefer sleeves, so I thought I’d show you this relaxed shirtdress. It’s available in Misses, Petite, and Tall sizes, and in 3 colors. This green looks like Spring’s “Apple green” on my monitor. Summers, the blue is yours. I’m not too sure about the “Citron” color which is probably an acid yellow (with the filters they use, it’s hard to tell).

You could also belt this one, or wear it open as a lightweight duster.

Nordstrom

The Nordstrom Half-Yearly Sale is on, and there’s a little of everything in the mix, including quite a bit of Eileen Fisher.

I know many of you are fans of Ilse Jacobsen flats. This style is available in a few colors, though some limited size availability. I thought this pink looked fun for you cool-toned ladies.

I included these sandals in gold in an earlier post, but if you prefer something more neutral and subtle (and need arch support), they’re also available in black or tan.

Jenni Kayne

Save 20% off summer essentials with code MDWEVENT. Yes, JK is spendy, but the quality is there. I’ve had this cotton fisherman sweater for a few years now, have worn it often and washed it multiple times, and it still looks like new. A lot of Jenni Kayne pieces run large, just FYI.

Just a note: I’ve observed that retailers don’t seem to be discounting as broadly or deeply as they often did during the last few years. So be sure to check that your preferred style or color is actually included in the sale. Popular sizes and colors may sell out quickly once discounted, too.
