An easy summer look in off-white and gold

Do you ever fall in love with a color? I’m absolutely SMITTEN with this one! 💛

(I’m wearing the XS Petite in the cardigan, XS in the top, 27P in the jeans.)

An off-white and gold outfit with a linen cardigan

Linen cardigans and sweaters have become one of my summer wardrobe staples. They’re perfect to throw on for air-conditioned interiors, or those evenings when the fog rolls in.

Susan B. wears a resin link necklace, gold linen cardigan over off-white separates.

I mentioned last weekend’s newsletter that I’d ordered this linen-blend cardigan, and had my fingers crossed about the color. Specifically, that it would be as bright and saturated as it appeared online. It did NOT disappoint! This honey gold is one of my best (and favorite) colors. (It’s also offered in black and winter white.)

I wanted to create a look that was relaxed but polished. A column of color (in this case, off-white) is an easy way to make even a casual outfit more elegant. Normally I would have worn the top with a half-tuck, but in this case preferred it loose. (This top is going to be included in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale…so if you’re interested add to your Wish List to purchase once you have access to the sale.)

While I’ve created this outfit in off-white and gold, you could use any combination of 2 neutrals or colors for a similar effect. This cardigan “plays well with others” in my summer wardrobe, so you’ll probably be seeing more outfits with it soon!

  1. What season are you, Susan? That honey color (cardigan) is gorgeous, but as a summer palate, I’m sure it won’t flatter me. Lovely to look at though!

    1. Hi Sarah, I’m a “Golden Spring,” which means my best colors in the Spring palette are the most yellow-based versions. An Autumn could also absolutely wear this. It probably would not work for someone whose best colors are blue-based.

  2. Susan this outfit looks wonderful on you. Such perfection. Everything blends together beautifully. I’m a winter and find it disappointing when looking for clothing pieces. Sure you can find loads of black and navy but I love color too. For example—that sweater would be great in cobalt blue, a blue-red or vivid pink. I’m a petite size like you and that’s also getting harder to come by. Oh well—the struggle continues.

    1. Have you come across Kettlewell Colours? They’re a British company but ship to the states. They don’t do petite styles specifically though. But they do LOTS of colours!

  3. You look gorgeous in your outfit. The sweater makes the whole thing glow. Your chat with the other ladies today sounds like it could get interesting with four opinions on the colour issue. I will have to catch it on the replay. Have fun.

  4. How are the sandals/mules for comfort? I haven’t worn Frame shoes before but yours have an appealing height and foot coverage. I’ve had a hard time keeping mules on my feet.

    1. They’re comfortable and easy to walk in! I don’t usually wear thongs or sandals with a strap between my toes and was worried it might irritate, but it doesn’t.

  5. Just beautiful ! Love every piece here. I popped over to the JCrew site to look at the jeans, and they are still at reg price, but final sale? So weird! For $188 Cdn, I’m not prepared to take a chance on fit and not be able to return. I also have to say how much I’m loving your hair lately. I’m trying to grow out my short pixie and it’s a nightmare. You give me hope !

  6. I love this color on you; the picture of casual elegance. And I’m loving your hair color! Very flattering. The cut also!

  7. That outfit is pure sunshine! You look fabulous, Susan. Thank you for helping each of us look our best. (And, yes, I’m rather behind in my emails.)

  8. Just watched your video about colour theory and found it very informative. I agree with your comment about our skin colour being the basis of a good analysis. As a young woman, with medium to dark brown hair, hazel eyes and freckles, I was definitely a Winter. Cherry red and black and Snow White were very flattering, and still are, even though I now have a lot of gold in my skin, the result of too much time spent worshipping the sun. I find myself borrowing colours from the summer palette and occasionally autumn, but winter is still my most predominate season. Are you planning to become a Red Leopard representative? I have often thought of visiting them on a trip to London.

  9. Love the sweater but wonder about a review I read that it wrinkles. Does it? I’d love to toss it in my bag for our upcoming travels.

    1. Hi Jan, thanks! I haven’t found that it wrinkles (just did a scrunch test to verify), but I also haven’t worn it for an extended period sitting in a car.
