The sale top I’ve been wearing on repeat

Susan B. wears a vintage Chanel scarf, Eileen Fisher linen top, jeans, and Frame sandals.

It’s no secret that linen knits are just about my favorite thing to wear in the summer. When this Eileen Fisher linen top went on sale, I wanted to try it but wasn’t sure about the shape. But I have another sweater in the same color that’s a favorite, so decided to give it a go.

I’m wearing XXS in the top, 27 in the jeans.

I took a chance, and sized way down on the top. It was the right choice! There’s enough slouch to do a French tuck, but not so much that it overwhelms. The fabric is a lightweight linen-blend knit that’s comfortable even in the heat while looking a bit more polished than a tee.

Saturday we met up with family for a patio lunch. It was too warm for the blue jeans so I swapped in this lighter and looser-fitting pair (also worn here). Yes, I wore the same scarf, as I really like how it looks with the sweater and adds some pattern to the mix. (It’s a vintage Chanel small silk scarf that I’ve had for several years.) The striped espadrille sandals tied in the colors in the top and scarf and also lightened the look.

If there’s anything from Eileen Fisher you’ve had your eye on, they’re offering an extra 40% off sale items, including some System pieces. Here are a few of my picks from the sale (some have limited size/color availability)

  1. The color looks lovely, and you made an excellent decision on sizing down. Also, how do the jeans fit? Per the reviews it seems the waist runs small. I’m have a straight shape and find the waist of pants are tight. Here recently I went against my buy nothing motto and purchased some linen tees from Banana Republic. I bought them in a petite size as I am short waisted and they hit perfectly, long enough to tuck and short enough to leave untucked. My daughter was visiting for the week and had on the best looking pants from BR and I purchased them and some others as well. For about a year I’ve had good look with BR after not buying from them in years.

      1. I’ve been moving toward a wider leg less structured pant. As a straight shaped person they add some balance. The 1940’s vibe has resonated with me recently. I bought the linen excursion pants, the high rise wide leg cotton and linen pants and the high rise wide leg Lenzing ecovero pant. I did have them hemmed and wear with flats to low heels. I’m a teacher and the first two will be great for back to work in August and the Lenzing pant for when we go to dinner. All are super comfy and cool. I’ve also liked their tops.

    1. Hi Robyn, if you’re referring to the off-white pair, I do think they might run a bit smaller in the waist than some EF styles, but I found my usual EF pants size (6p) is a good fit.

  2. Two pitch perfect looks in one post! Each outfit suits you in every way. I love seeing the evolution of your style now that you know your best colors. You seem to have mastered the subtleties of accessorizing, too!

  3. You have been knocking it out of the park lately. This color top, along with the scarf, look so great on you. I think the posts where you wear blouses show that there also suit you, they are all youthful but sophisticated. Way to go.

  4. Susan, I love the scarf in your hair! I have a question, I have hair that I think is much like yours, fine and not real thick, so how do you keep the scarf from sliding off? I can never get them to stay on!

    1. Hi Donna, thanks! I’ve found if I stick to smaller, lighter-weight scarves (not heavy silk twill) and don’t tie them too snugly, they stay put.

  5. Love both looks! That turquoise color is stunning on you. Your glasses really suit you. I am learning from you the importance of wearing our best colors. Thanks for your video posts with Deborah, Jennifer and Tanya. I love them! It’s like listening to some good girlfriends chatting. I usually listen to you on my patio with a glass of wine in the evening and feel like I’m part of the group.
