A polished casual look with a striped top

A breezy, lightweight print top is one of my go-to pieces during warmer months to make a simple outfit pop. Here’s a polished casual “going out” look that’s cool but covered.

Susan B. wears a striped top and white jeans, holds a Cult Gaia Ark bag.

This post is sponsored by Nordstrom. All ideas and opinions are my own.

A polished casual striped top outfit

This lightweight band collar shirt is available in a BUNCH of colors and prints! I decided to go with these colorful stripes, and make it the centerpiece of the outfit. (Similar style in Plus.) Wearing size Small. I’m short (5’1″) and it’s more tunic-length on me, so I styled with a pair of slim-leg ivory jeans. (Similar here in white, and a Plus option.)

I like to wear a shorter necklace to fill in a v-neck, and this pendant necklace coordinates nicely! This bag is also one of my go-to’s in the warmer months for going-out outfits. It adds visual interest without competing with the rest of the pieces.

A neutral strappy sandal can dress up or down. These are from ECCO, so they’re quite comfortable. The heel is 2″, which is my max these days.

As you can see from the pieces I’ve included in this look, Nordstrom carries a wide range of brands and styles. And they’re always my first stop when I’m looking for something specific. Shipping and returns are free, and many items can be ordered online for pick up in your local store.

  1. One of the prettiest looks I’ve seen you wear. The colors just ”pop” on you! Beautiful!

  2. This is a really pretty top on you. I also like how you coordinated your lipstick color with it. Even though you’re going gray, you are looking younger. They have a nice choice of colors in the blouse. I am a black and white girl who would like to get more color in my life, but the black and white polka dot really caught my eye. I like your jeans too, but $215 is just a bit pricey for jeans for me. Do you feel that there is more of an advantage to paying that much for jeans as opposed to something for $100 or less?

    1. Hi Ann, thanks so much! When it comes to jeans, I have favorites in a range of prices, including some below $100. For me, it’s all about the fit and fabric. I’ve been updating a few pairs with current styles, look for a post in the next few weeks.

  3. I love your travel/style blog and have been reading every day for several months. First time commenting. I LOVE your style and appreciate the info on travels in Europe as we are thinking of going to Europe next year.

  4. You have been knocking it out of the park with your recent picks and posts! Love how you look here!

  5. Hi Susan! Read the reviews on the Nordie site and they are all over the place. So, do you think this runs slightly small? Also, is the fabric scratchy? Does it snag? I can see it is quite sheer but is the fabric nice and does it breathe?

    Thanks!

    1. Hi Jan, I’d say it might run a little smaller than some oversized tops. If you’re between sizes, go up. I don’t find the fabric scratchy. It does breathe. I haven’t experienced any snags, but with any fabric that’s sheer-ish like this, I avoid wearing with any jewelry with textures that can catch and snag.

  6. Love that striped top. Really great colors on you. I love stripes, for me they never go out of style.

  7. That top is ever so good on you. Love it witht the sandals and the bag. You did well again.
