A Leopard Print Field Jacket for Spring: Easy, Casual, and Polished

One of the biggest frustrations of style blogging is when something really good sells out before I’ve had a chance to share it. I’ve been working on a roundup of lightweight jackets for spring, and had planned to include this one, until I noticed that it had been marked down and is going fast. Rather than wait and risk you missing out, I wanted to share this leopard print field jacket now.

The Leopard Field Jacket

My sizes: Jacket – Petite Small, Sweater – Small, Jeans – 28

I bought this 100% cotton jacket a few weeks ago and have been patiently waiting for warmer weather to wear it. It’s from J.Crew Factory and comes in both Regular and Petite sizes (I’m wearing a Petite Small). The brown corduroy collar is a nice detail that softens the leopard print and makes it especially flattering for Spring and Autumn palettes. The gold hardware is another subtle touch that gives it a more finished feel.

The Rest of the Outfit

The jeans are a new favorite straight-leg style, “The Mellow” from Frame. They have a mid-rise and the fabric has a good bit of stretch for comfort. They run true-to-size, and are Petite-friendly—I didn’t need to have them hemmed, which is always a win.

Those cognac flats are from Jeffrey Campbell. The color I’m wearing is on sale, and they run true-to-size.

Why a Field Jacket Works as a “Third Piece”

A lightweight field or chore jacket is one of my favorite “third pieces.” It adds structure and polish to casual or smart-casual outfits without feeling fussy or overdone. With the ongoing interest in heritage and preppy dressing, these jackets continue to be widely available in a range of colors, prints, and price points—and most have pockets, which makes them as practical as they are stylish. If you’re looking for something similar (or want to explore other lightweight options for spring) I’ve rounded up a few more field and chore jackets below.

  1. Hi Susan. Such a smart-looking outfit. I love leopard print but doesn’t work for me, as I’m a winter. What would you suggest for us cool palettes that would project the same vibe. It seems we’re left out when it comes to leopard print except to incorporate maybe shoes but even then the coloring doesn’t blend with our cooler tones. Help!

      1. Susan, I’m with Rose. Any cool toned jacket with silvertone or even black hardware. There are so many cute options in greens, blues and navy but they all seem to have shiny gold hardware. Thanks so much, Arlene

  2. Hi Susan,
I ordered the jacket this morning and am really looking forward to it’s arrival. I love the saturated color and gold buttons. Thank you for sharing a great find and on sale, too!

  3. Hello Susan,
Love your posts thank you! I just wanted to write and thank you for your instagram post recently on a far different topic. I totally agree. Have a wonderful weekend enjoying the Olympics, and the celebration of many countries coming together peacefully.

  4. Susan, your blog is one of the things that helps distract me (in a good way) from what we are living through. Thanks for all your efforts! Looking forward to your posts about the upcoming trip.
