Still In Love…

floral + leopard pattern mix

Floral + leopard is still one of my favorite pattern mixes. I love pairing the two in an outfit. (The charcoal grey tunic is actually lighter than it appears in the picture. I tried playing with the exposure but couldn’t get the color right without washing the rest out.)

Happy Valentine’s Day! Though I’ll admit, it’s never been one of those holidays I get worked up about. Le monsieur and I usually exchange some mushy cards, but we don’t buy gifts or go out to dinner with twenty thousand other people in the same overcrowded, overwhelmed restaurant. (I feel the same way about Mothers’ Day for myself…I’d just as soon have a quiet day at home and throw something on the BBQ, then go have a nice brunch or dinner another time when it’s not so crowded.) We are planning a little romantic weekend getaway, but early next month in between my birthday and our 19th wedding anniversary.

leopard calf hair boots, kitten heel boots

I’m still in love with these boots, too. They’re a few years old now and getting a bit bald in spots where the hair has worn off, but are still the life of the party.

Earrings: Argento Vivo, similar // Scarf: J.Crew, no longer available, similar // Tunic: Eileen Fisher, no longer available, similar // Jeans: Eileen Fisher // Boots: Cole Haan, several years old, similar.

Do you celebrate Valentine’s Day? Do you have favorite pairings of colors or patterns?

  1. Because the weather is going to be so warm, we decided to go away for Valentine’s Day and get in the extra day because of President’s Day on Monday. I’m not a pattern mixer – I have so few items with patterns in my closet. Have a wonderful weekend.

  2. I bet you’ll never fall out of love with those boots! They look great with that scarf, and you’ve given me an idea for my outfit today. And TGIF!

  3. I’m still crazy about stripes and floral, but I like what you’ve paired here too. We are staying in for Valentine’s Day with a bottle of red and Olympics watching! It’s the men’s long program tonight and I’m expecting some great performances from several skaters. Have a great weekend. XO, Jill

  4. I’m the same way about Valentine’s Day — spent a few in crowdeds restaurant with floor and kitchen staff all slammed, and that’s not fun. Your pattern mix is fun, though, very lively. And isn’t it great to have items that you actually want to wear into the ground because you love them so much!

  5. You look fab! That scarf is huge, though you’re pulling it off. Sometimes I’ll whack one if those monsters in half. Two for one! Anyhow proportion is always a challenge for me too. I’m 5’3″, right in the cusp of petite. Online shopping involves ordering 4 szes: M, L, MP, LP. Le sigh. Best

  6. Love the scarf. I am with you on Valentine’s Day. Overcrowded and overpriced here in London. My lovely husband brings me a bunch of flowers randomly as a surprise which I think is so much more romantic.

  7. We also stay home on Valentine’s Day. I bought salmon and asparagus for tonight’s dinner. Little new potatoes on the side and a bottle of pino grigio.

Have a wonderful Valentine’s Day. You look so cute in this ensemble!

  8. Those boots are indeed going strong! My pattern comes in scarves, but I have a leopard ‘skin’ belt I’ll wear sometimes. We don’t go out on V-day either, it and Mother’s Day are about the worst time to be in a restaurant- but I do adore the most sumptuous love card le Duc can write.

  9. We are of a mind with you on Val. Day. We go to our favorite pub for happy hour, toast each other, trade mushy cards, and call it a day. We love each other all the time, so we don’t need to wait in line at Le Restaurant for two hours : > Fab booties, btw!

  10. Feel the same way you do about Valentines’ Day and Mothers’ Day. “Hallmark holidays”. It’s the other cumulative 364 days each year that matter. My hubby and I (married for 33 years) didn’t even buys cards, much less flowers or overpriced, rushed dinner. We celebrate with our 1-2 vacations in Europe each year. 🙂

  11. You are so BOLD! I would never think to try mixing leopard with anything but solid colors. Love it. I’m with you about V day and M day. We usually dine at home on those days since my husband loves to cook (tonight is salmon, rice pilaf and asparagus along with a fabulous chardonnay–not buttery–yum). I have a question for the group: you posted the Tsubo booties in your ‘Travel in Style’ posting. Do you love love love them? I’m still in search of a great stylish and comfortable bootie. Any thoughts? (I just ordered the Frye Carson Wedge Bootie and while they’re very pretty and well made I’m not entirely sold….)

  12. Love the scarf, not so sure about the footwear.
Valentine’s Day tradition at our house is that I cook at home for him. (My birthday is the week before!) Wonderful dinner this evening with a fabulous French Chateneuf (15 years old) – lamb tagine..

  13. You look fabulous. Love what you’re wearing. I’m with you too on crowded restaurants. We OD’d on sugar last night with Nutella crepes with strawberries and watched an old movie in front of the fire. So much nicer than crowds and noise. All my clothes are solids — I get pattern and florals in with shoes and scarves.

  14. The fur rubs off all our favourite cuddly toys… You look fantastic in floral and animal.
People in Vancouver were stressing about Valentine’s Day – I could feel it in the street and had to scurry home. Anxious men wielding flowers, anxious women, everyone stressed that they HAD to make THIS DAY, THEE PERFECT ROMANTIC DAY. Whew. I came home and hung out with O, nothing special. I like it like that.
