This Week’s Sale Picks: Pieces Worth a Second Look
Last week, I noticed that a lot of my outfits this summer are a mix of pieces I’ve purchased in prior seasons and even prior years. And that’s a good thing! It means that I’ve built a cohesive wardrobe over time, and that a few seasonal updates are all I need to keep it feeling fresh.
I’ve been sharing a lot of sales lately, yes. Who doesn’t like to save a few bucks here and there? But spending wisely isn’t just about the lowest price — it’s about whether a piece will work with what you already own, and whether it’ll still earn its place in your closet next year. That’s why I like to highlight tried-and-true sale finds.
With that lens, a few pieces are worth a closer look right now — not because they’re discounted, but because they’re the kind that earn their spot.
ME+EM Top and Pants

(My sizes: Top – 4US/8UK, Pants – 6US/10UK)
ME+EM is having a big sale; both the top and pants I’m wearing above are marked down. (I’ve been wearing this top a lot during the recent heat wave, and always get compliments on it!) Summers, take a look at this pretty striped blouse, and Winters, I love this one for you.
Be sure to check out ME+EM’s selection of dresses, many of which have sleeves and longer hemlines, both of which can be hard to find this time of year.
Vince Cardigan and Shell — A Travel Capsule Repeat
Last year, I traveled with with this Vince lightweight wool-blend cardigan and shell, and they both earned MVP status. I spied very similar styles from Vince in the Anniversary Sale, both available in three colors, and most sizes. (I’m wearing size Small in both.)
Which color works for you?
- Emerald: I think both Winters and some Summers can wear this one, as it looks in-between Light Emerald in the Winter palette, and Jade in the Summer palette.
- Rose Jam: a soft, earthy brownish pink. Both Autumns and some Summers should be able to wear this one.
- Off-White: I haven’t seen this one in person, but on my monitor it’s a soft white, which will work for Summers and some Springs.
And I should also mention that my favorite lightweight travel scarf (worn above) is currently marked down.
Open-Stitch Hoodie & Fisherman Sandals

My sizes: Sweater – Small, Pants – Petite Small
Many of you took a closer look at this open-stitch hoodie, and it will be a nice piece to have when cool evenings return. My favorite fisherman sandals have also been marked down…they’re a great style to wear now and into fall. (Yes, you can add socks.)
A Pretty, Season-Spanning Sweater from Eileen Fisher

(Size XS for me)
I just received this lightweight linen-cotton blend sweater, on sale now at Eileen Fisher. The weight and fabric make it perfect for transitional-season wear, and the set-in sleeves mean it layers easily under a jacket. That Teal color above is the most delicious shade, which I think can work for Autumns, Springs, and some Summers. (Winters, check out Petunia!) Save an additional 25% on all EF sale items with code 4YOU.
So when you’re shopping the sales, think long-term: not just “can I wear it now,” but “will I want to wear it again next season, or next year?” That’s how you get the most out of your wardrobe budget. And if you’re already thinking ahead to fall, so am I — I’m watching the pre- and early-fall collections start to land, and over the next few weeks I’ll be working through those and some fall travel wardrobe ideas. I think that’s one of the things I love and appreciate the most about your blog Susan – the fact that you frequently re-wear fabulous pieces from past seasons, but in new ways to keep your look fresh and modern. I take so much inspiration from your wonderful style, thank you!
Hi Anna, thanks so much!
That russet colored two piece set is fabulous on you!
Thanks very much, Cindylou!
Hi Susan,
Thank you for all your invaluable advice! I have learnt so much regarding colour choices as I shop. I have the courage to almost never opt for black, which used to be my staple “go to” safe colour! As an Autumn, I am finding the natural browns in so many different shades to be such a win for me. No more black jackets…I am selecting the colours that make me shine!
Keep up the good work!
Jacqui
Hi Jacqui, thank you, and I’m so glad it’s been helpful! Isn’t it a great feeling to wear your best colors?
