These 5 Things Are Always In My Travel Makeup Bag…

5 Beauty Essentials for Travel. These are always in my travel makeup bag! Details at une femme d'un certain age.

While I don’t usually pack a lot of makeup products when I travel, there are a few items that are always included in my makeup bag…

My Top 5 Travel Beauty Essentials

  1. Trish McEvoy Triangle of Light Eye Masks. I love to travel, but it often can mean jet-lag, lack of sleep, and stress. When I’m tired, I see it first around my eyes. I’ll apply these patches underneath my eyes for a few minutes in the morning, after my moisturizer but before my sunscreen. They are incredibly soothing, and really refresh the area underneath my eyes, reducing puffiness and circles.
  2. Trish McEvoy Instant Eye Lift. For persistent dark circles, I apply a little of this brightener in a triangle shape underneath my eyes. It doesn’t get cakey or settle into fine lines like many concealers. And it really does make me look like I’ve had a good night’s sleep, instantly!
  3. Eyelash curler. I don’t always wear mascara on travel days, but I always do curl my lashes, as it makes me look more wide-awake and alert. I’m a fan of this one from Charlotte Tilbury; many people like the one from Shu Uemura.
  4. Lighted magnifying mirror. Even the nicest hotels can have crappy lighting in the bathroom, and may not have a makeup mirror at all. (Or one that’s mounted too high to be of use…) If you’re nearsighted like I am, a little magnification is essential! I love this little rechargeable mirror from simplehuman. It will work for several days on a single charge, has 3x magnification, and two brightness settings.
  5. Chantecaille Waterproof Brow Definer. I love this one because it stays put, and never needs a sharpener. The Light Taupe is a perfect match for my brow color, so adds definition while looking natural. I also like this one from Makeover Workshop in Natural Taupe, which is slightly warmer in color.

  1. I could really use a good lighted, magnifying mirror for travel. When I clicked on both of your mirror links it said that the page was no longer available.

  2. You had mentioned the lighted magnifying mirror in a previous travel post. I bought it and I love it! I use it often at home, too. Thanks.

  3. Great travel piece, Susan. I love all your posts. I always think of you whenever I’m shopping or considering adding a piece to my wardrobe. Your guidance is the best!
I love your new look — you’ve certainly come into your own. You are inspiring!
Thank you for all you do. You are one of my favorite bloggers. I have the greatest respect for you.
Like you, I’m a mom of a young adult with special needs. It’s a whole different world of parenting.
It’s rewarding, and can be challenging at times — not my son, but the rest of the world. It’s nice to keep my interests broadened and escape into fashion and other fun places. I always look forward to seeing your blogs in my inbox. All my best to you. xx

  4. I got to the page for the mirror but nowhere on there does it say any size. So I chatted. Endless wait! But it comes in two sizes and the minimum price they had was $130. Not sure if this is what you have/are showing? It is 5″ diameter.

    1. Tweezer man has a great small lighted magnifying mirror – available at Walgreens, CVS, etc. I think it cost around $15.

  5. Been considering a lighted mirror for our bathroom. It’s confusing though. They seem to start at $40, then up to the sky. Any recommendations for a bathroom mirror would be appreciated.

  6. Yes…I think I need more magnification than 3X …would be interested in both a travel one as well as a mirror that would be similar to the ones that are often in hotels…large/lighted/higher magnification…thanks in advance
