Une femme recommends: Pack-It® System

Several weeks back, I posted about needing to upgrade our luggage, and that I was considering this Eagle Creek bag, or ultimately, a pair of those bags, as neither mon mari or I could ever be considered light packers. So we purchased the one bag, it’s now been on two trips, and I will indeed be purchasing a second prior to our upcoming Paris/New York trip in October.
But what have really won my heart are the Pack-It® Cubes

and Folders.

These are the real magic of the system. The cubes come in a variety of sizes and are great for organizing any clothes that can be rolled (jeans, t-shirts, knits, underwear, sleepwear). No more scrambling around the night before your trip looking for clean-ish gallon-size Ziploc bags to spare your unmentionables from TSA/Customs riffling!

The folders are for larger items, and any garments that are prone to wrinkle. On this last trip we packed several of mon mari’s cotton button down shirts and slacks according to the easy directions, and even after 24 hours, two flights, and some serious humidity, they emerged from the folder looking as if they’d just been picked up at the laundry. He decided I wasn’t nuts after all.
The cubes and folders are designed to fit the Eagle Creek luggage, but would probably work well with any luggage you already have. Oh, and these are great for bringing home dirty laundry, conveniently compacted to make more room in your luggage for souvenirs!

  1. Have long used a cheapo version of this system: small nylon spors sac-type bags, big ziplocks or pretty much anything that zips to create “departments” in the larger bag.

  2. I use a couple of these for small things like socks and underthings that I want to keep corralled, they are extremely helpful and breathe better than plastic bags. Eagle Creek travel products are one of few brands that I have found that I am actually ok paying full price for.

  3. Since my checked bag is searched about half the time I fly (I am an eccentric packer, sometimes I bring a metal thermos or other weird gear that seems to attract their attention), I like to use the huge plastic bags you can exhaust the air out of for all my clothing. The bottom layer of my suitcase is the oddities: shoes, thermos, white noise machine. I lay the plastic bags on top and cinch the internal belts of the suitcase to hold the bags down and keep the oddities organized.

This system survives being searched; the security folks even remember to re-cinch the belts most of the time!
