Pick of the week: a stylish & comfortable sandal

Thanks so much for all of the birthday wishes yesterday!!

Mephisto Lissia wedge sandal navy.

If you have warm weather travel planned this year, you may want to include sandals on your packing list. Here’s a pair that will go from a day of sightseeing to dinner out.

I’ve had a version of this style in my wardrobe for a few years now, and they get my highest recommendation. They’re comfortable enough to walk in all day (and stable even on the cobblestones of Paris!). The ankle and toe straps both adjust with a velcro (hook and loop) fastening for a custom fit.

They look great with pants or skirts. Chunky and wedge sandals are very on-trend for this spring & summer, and I often receive compliments on mine. I really like this new version in navy, which I think will be quite versatile!

Wearing in Paris: a blue-green linen jacket, botanical print scarf, jeans and wedge sandals. Details at une femme d'un certain age.

  1. I discovered Memphisto sandals when I was in Paris many years ago. I have a pair in black and a pair in silver/gray that are my ” go to” sandals when I travel in warm weather. You are so right about their comfort and versatility. I will have to check out the navy you recommended.

  2. I had been eyeing these sandals for a couple years (at your recommendation). I just couldn’t screw up the nerve to pay that much for sandals, so kept leaving them in my cart. Last year, they were part of the Nordstrom Anniversary sale and I snapped up a pair. They are worth the hype. The best sandals I’ve ever had. I’ll be getting another pair this spring.

  3. I bought these sandals in black and gold a few years ago when you had highlighted them and loved them. When a navy pair was included in the NAS, I scooped up a second pair more in line with my Autumn color palette. I am currently traveling in Atlanta right now, and my daughter is all about walking everywhere. Guess what shoes are in my bag?

  4. Susan, I LOVE your hair in the photo above. Is that a new look? You look fantastic in the whole outfit, but that hair style is so perfect. Oh, and yes, the shoe selection is worth diving into as well.

  5. Hi, Susan. Thanks for getting us in the mood for Spring with sandals!
On a separate note, I recall when you (apologetically) introduced ads to your email followers. I, like others, understood and have even clicked on severals ads (Are the really “the only” boot I’ll ever need 🙂
More recently, however, I’m seeing more pop-up ads. These are incredibly annoying and distracting, particularly for those of us who follow you on our phones. Additionally, they seem quite irrelevant (McDonalds ad in Spanish, for example). Would you consider removing the pop up ads?

      1. When I am looking at your page on my phone, I often can’t load all the content. For instance, today I can’t scroll past “More Spring and Summer Shoes.” It’s just a long blank page with ads and none of your content. I don’t have this problem on my laptop (using Chrome).

        1. Thanks for letting me know, I’ll ask my tech support folks to take a look. Just FYI, the only content following that title is a product showcase. So if you’re seeing images of shoes as you scroll, that’s my content, not ads.

  6. I love these sandals! But WHY do they have to have the brand name printed in big white letters on the side? Ugh. I also have a suggestion for a great platform sandal: the Dansko Season. I own it in 3 colors and it’s comfortable enough to walk all over Disneyland for 12 hours (my ultimate shoe test)

    1. Mary Alice: Mephisto usually use a colour for their name that blends in with the other colours in the sandal. You are correct that in this picture it looks like bright white letters…..it is much more subtle when you see the sandals in person. I am willing to put up with a subtle name printed on my shoe for the comfort Mephisto provides

  7. I also bought these sandals at your recommendation just prior to our holiday in New Orleans in March 2020. They are so comfortable – I will always have them and Birkenstocks in rotation. Pricey – yes but worth every penny.

  8. I love Mephisto footwear but I couldn’t begin to consider spending a day walking in a wedge this high. I’m glad they work for others.

  9. Love the sandals, however, the wedge is too high for me also. Ever since my foot surgeries several years ago, my ankles tend to twist easily.

On a separate note, I have been a subscriber to your wonderful blog for several years now and love it. However, I realized yesterday that I had not seen an email from you this past week. It seems I have “slipped” out of your email list. Would you please add me back in OR should I subscribe again. Thank you, Susan!

    1. Hi Christi, thanks for letting me know. I’ll check your subscription status and re-subscribe you if necessary. You may also want to add [email protected] to your email “preferred senders” or “safe senders” list to avoid having the emails land in your spam folder.
