Shopping my closet: glad I kept this one!

Susan B. wears a casual linen sweater outfit with slim leg jeans, white sneakers and gold link jewelry.

We’re off to an extended family BBQ today, the first time we’ve all been together in about 15 months! I’m really looking forward to seeing everyone. We’re all fully vaxxed, so no masks or distancing required.

Casual outfit with a linen sweater

Cooler than normal weather nixed the more summery outfit I’d planned, so I took a deep dive into my closet looking for a lightweight sweater. Something “casual chic.” When I spotted this sweater, I thought I’d give it another try.

I’d almost consigned this Gerard Darel linen sweater last year (first shown HERE) because I wasn’t crazy about how it fit me. Instead I set it aside in a spare closet, and pulled it out again yesterday. I’m happy I kept it! It’s a great color and well made. Thanks to a few inches gone from my hips*, it’s now slouchy enough to do a nice half-tuck.

(*I’ve been doing Faster Way to Fat Loss since last July, and have been very happy with the program. I’m stronger, have added muscle, have more energy, my coordination and balance have improved, I’m leaner, and my clothes fit better. If you’re interested in trying this program, my friend Karen still has a couple of spots in her coaching group for the round that starts today. Click here for more info.)

Something new is coming soon…

I’ve been working behind the scenes with a design team on a major makeover for my home page! I wanted to make it easier to navigate and find the content you’re interested in. If all goes as planned, it will be “live” within the next couple of days. Once it’s up and running, I’ll give you a tour. I’m really excited about it and think you’ll like it too.

  1. It’s funny to read your blog today and see I did the same thing this weekend. Cleaned out my closet, pulling some stuff for goodwill and some better stuff for consignment. But as I was going through the consignment stuff I had some second thoughts. I realized if I wore a couple of the tops tucked in with a cognac belt and slides, they had a whole different (more modern) look. It’s always good to shop our closets first!

  2. Well this is funny because I’ve been doing the same thing. Revisiting my clothes and coming up with new combinations. I love that green sweater and the fabric sounds like something I would like.

  3. Hard to see you wearing sweaters and jeans. It was 99 degrees here yesterday with a low of 65. And headed to 104 today. I’ll be wearing almost nothing and hitting the pool this afternoon. Yes we have the community pool open by reserved time slots. This is progress.

    1. I have that green sweater and bought it after seeing on you a long time ago. I love it. Got on sale.(rare) I cannot wear it here where I live. Hot…But it is heading with me to Europe in the fall hopefully along with an EF gold one I bought. I read many blogs but have to say, your style is one I often copy.

  4. Did the same thing yesterday, I had to pull out a sweater to go with my jeans & flats. The weather this weekend was so cold & rainy in the northeast. But having a BBQ with all vaccinated family members for the first time felt so good I didn’t mind that we had to set up inside!!

  5. I prefer this variation of the sweater because you wear fewer jewels. It’s a lovely color of green, but last year’s photo I thought the layered necklace look was too distracting.

    1. Well, last year it was wine at a resturant, this year it’s a backyard and “oh my God we’ve missed you” so different sorts of event.
A linen sweater is a mid-dressy item. It’s not silk, which if it’s smooth is good with jewelry, and it’s not thick cotton which is better with say a bandana at the neck.

I’d say the main thing is to be reaching to the back of the closet and looking over any bags to give to Goodwill or consignment because the circumstances of our lives have switched around a lot in the past year and nothing is worse than getting rid of something and then finding yourself buying it over again.

  6. I almost consigned two pair of Eileen Fisher pants I bought in 2016 because of the loose fit. So glad I didn’t – the lantern-type ankle length and tensel fabric are everywhere this spring. Very relaxed with movement, a nice change from all my slim legs. I’ve found that EF frequently gets ahead of trends in a good way so investment always pays off. P.S. I love your new weekly chat with the fashion bloggers. Highly recommend to any of your readers who haven’t discovered it yet. Such fun!

  7. Many years ago I had a sweater in that exact shade of green. I think that particular shade is flattering to so many different people. I don’t know if it’s because it’s neither warm nor cool but somewhere in the middle. It’s a perfect shade for you.

  8. You look great! I have gotten some bedding at incredible prices this weekend. King size sheet sets for 16., 1 king size comforter 25. and king size comforter set (comforter, bed skirt, pillow shams & 2 decorative pillows) for 50. I was gobsmacked when I saw the prices. I had gotten a few pair of shorts and tees a couple of weeks ago (on sale of course) and a pair of capri linen pants that goes with several blouses I already have. So, I’m set up for the summer. I love going shopping in my closet as well; I’ve also find things that should be put to the side to see if I really should keep it. Thanks for all your tips, travel outfits and I feel like you are absolutely blossoming with all the new things you are doing! THREE CHEERS FOR SUSAN!!!! Thanks again!
