Two easy outfits with quilted layers

Susan B. wears a gold J.Crew puffer jacket with a leopard print scarf. Details at une femme d'un certain age.

I tried to craft a clever title for this post, but everything I came up with sounded like I was talking about toilet paper…😂

The not-too-puffy puffer…

Yes, even in Southern California it can get quite chilly in the mornings and evenings. This quilted jacket is the perfect weight for our colder months, and I love that it’s not too bulky. (And the shell is water-repellent.)

It’s nice to have some outerwear in a cheerful color! 🌈

I’ve worn this jacket a few times already on our evening dog walks. I love those deep front pockets for carrying my phone, keys, and a bag of dog training treats. It’s available in several colors, sizes Misses, Petite, Tall XX-Small to 3X. I’m wearing Petite Small.

AND, starting today, if you’re a J.Crew Rewards member, it’s 50% off with code EARLY! For everyone else, 40% off with code WHYWAIT.

A sleek quilted vest for milder days…

Susan B. wears a constellation print top, quilted navy vest and light grey jeans. Details at une femme d'un certain age.

The Cyber-Week sales are kicking in already, and Chico’s currently has 40% off with code 79855. That includes these pieces I’m wearing here (all gifted as part of an Instagram campaign). This quilted vest is very lightweight, has an interior drawstring waist for a flattering fit, and is reversible to the same constellation pattern as the top.

The top is part of the Zenergy collection and is really soft and comfortable. Other colors and prints available too. (I’m wearing a 00P in all pieces.) The jeans are slim but stretchy and comfortable to wear all day at home.

Love, love, love anything REVERSIBLE!! Especially for when I’m back TRAVELING! I just ordered the vest and tee…I also highly recommend Chico’s “layering tee”…it washes and dries beautifully and keeps the soft “hand” and comes in so many colors! And Chico’s carries so many of their items in “petites”, which is very helpful for “pixies”…Thanks for the hot tips, as always, Susan!!

You look fabulous! I really love the Zenergy brand, the tops have wonderful prints and they are so comfortable.

I love the navy outfit with your yellow/orange glasses and bracelet to contrast. Just that tiny bit of dissonance.

What shoes did you pair with the vest outfit?

White sneakers. But I think the outfit needed a darker pair to balance the top.

    Hi Susan,
Love your blog! Question – I am a definite petite 4’11 and about 118 lbs. I have never purchased from Chico’s, but I love the navy vest and celestial top. Would you say their petite sizing is true to size or runs big? Thanks and enjoy your Thanksgiving.

Hi April, I find both of these pieces ran TTS. The top is fitted, but not snug.

First thing I noticed was the beautiful design on the left side of the coat. Then I realized it was a reflection of the leaves in the sunshine. Love both, in fact I love all your outfits. The colors you pick now are the colors I love. That scarf is to die for with the copper in it.

You look great in both outfits! Of course that is the point of your outfits, looking great. I LOVE the gold puffer!

I love the navy Chico’s top. Is the navy vest from Chico’s? The one that Chico’s shows with that top has a drawstring waist. Is that the one you are wearing?

Layering is definitely key to surviving winter here on the Canadian prairie. I’m getting a lot of wear out of my quilted ultra light down vest from Uniqlo. It adds warmth without bulk and I love the fact that it packs easily into its own tiny drawstring bag and can be tucked into my handbag in case I need it when I’m out and about. I was reminded of it by your vest as it is also navy, but I’m actually thinking about ordering a second one in a different colour.

Susan, I spy a Calamityware mug almost hidden in your hand! Don’t you love those mugs?? They have made me smile every time I’ve used one this year. My wife also insisted we buy four dessert plates and a platter to match “to remember 2020 by!” We’ve also given the mugs to friends and coworkers this year when we thought they needed a smile. Everyone loves them! Happy Thanksgiving!

Gosh that blue and silver (?) outfit might be gifted but it suits you like a T. Such a lovely outfit. And I also like the yellow puffer jacket. Like you, I love coats in bright colours. Uniqlo does very good puffer jackets as well but not in such happy colours.

Thanks, Greetje. This bright navy blue is one of the neutrals in my palette, and I really love it.
