What I Love This Week: Festive-Not-Fussy Flannel & More

Ready or not, the holidays are upon us! Whether you’re hosting, traveling, or juggling a bit of both, I hope your season is off to a joyful start. Today I’m sharing a few quick picks that caught my eye this week: a casually festive holiday look, a sweet seasonal treat, colorful accessories, and more.

A Casual Holiday Outfit for Women: Festive Flannel

I’m wearing: Shirt – XS, Jean – 8 Petite

Party-ready flannel? When it’s a bright tartan like this one, absolutely! Here’s a casual holiday outfit idea for women with a festive flannel shirt. Plaid and tartan flannel shirts are another “non-trend trend” this season. And thanks to designers like Céline who featured them in their Spring-Summer 2026 collections, they’ll carry over into spring. The one I’m wearing is courtesy of Lands’ End, and I’m rather smitten with it!

The soft flannel fabric is 100% cotton, and available in several different color plaids and checks in Regular, Petite, and Plus sizes. This (neutral to cool) red and green colorway is great for you Winters and Blue Springs. (Summers, check out the Orchid Plaid, Springs and Autumns take a look at the Sea Coral.) This cropped length is great for Petites, but if you prefer a longer style, take a look at the flannel “Boyfriend” shirt. Best of all, you can save 50% off sitewide at Lands’ End for Black Friday!

I’ve styled here with jeans, but I think this shirt would also look great with corduroy or velvet pants (or even a long skirt).

Bright (But Wearable) Lipstick

And speaking of festive touches, a cheerful lip color can brighten up your whole look.

Chanel Rouge Coco Flash lipstick

CHANEL Rouge Coco Flash Lipstick

It’s always so frustrating when a go-to lipstick gets discontinued. I decided to ask a Sales Associate at the Chanel beauty counter what happened to my favorite Rouge Coco formula. She told me that it’s going to be returning next year, but in the meantime suggested this one.

And I like it! The formula is sheer and moisturizing. And the colors are bright enough to show up with even just one coat. It does have a bit of shine, but isn’t super glossy. (I haven’t yet swatched all of the colors, but the one I’m wearing in photos both above and below is “Beat,” a warm red.)

A Classic Fragrance Gets a Modern Update

And while we’re talking beauty…

Guerlain Shalimar “Essence” and Shalimar Original fragrances (c/o)

The team at Guerlain kindly sent me this Shalimar fragrance duo. I’ve always loved the original Shalimar, which was created in 1925.

The new Shalimar “Essence” (created for the 100th anniversary) is a lighter, modern take on the vanilla-based original. It’s softer, without the original’s citrus and bergamot top notes, but more vanilla-focused. It’s a nice daytime fragrance that won’t enter the room before you do.

And because colorful accessories always make outfits feel polished and intentional…

Here are three easy ways to tie them:

Harry & David Pears

And finally—because the holidays aren’t complete without a little indulgence…

Royal Riviera Pears

These pears are one of my favorite seasonal treats! I promise that unless you live near a pear orchard, these are the best you’ll taste anywhere. They’re incredibly sweet and flavorful, and also make nice gifts!

If you’re easing into the season or still getting your bearings (no judgment…I’m right there with you), I hope these little favorites spark a bit of inspiration. Whether it’s a bright tartan shirt, a new lipstick, or a perfectly ripe pear, sometimes it’s the small joys that make the holidays feel special. Thanks, as always, for reading and stay tuned for more festive style and gift ideas in the coming weeks!

  1. Love this post! Lands End has great quality for the price if you can find the fit you want (fyi the Boyfriend Shirt link isn’t working). I also really appreciate the Celine link; I probably will not buy from them but love the inspo. This is a great look on you!

  2. to my surprise, trader joe’s on saturday had lovely boxes of 6 harry and david comice pears and they are delicious!

    1. Yes, for a Bright/Vivid Autumn I think it will work. There’s also another shade called “Sunset” that would be great for most Autumns. It’s not as bright but a great color.

  3. Oh I love that plaid flannel! But so disappointed it’s not for my spring palette. For several years now I’ve been searching for the perfect red plaid shirt for the holidays but no luck 🙁

  4. So right you are! That ‘Pearl’ hue is definitely mine (as an Autumn). I bought something very similar in texture several years ago at Nordstrom when they featured LOADS of cashmere/silk tissue-weight scarves.
Thanks for the reminder to dig it out – and wear it!

  5. Thank you so much for the scarves tutorial! I really need a refresh since I tend to wear mine the same way each time.
Next, I need to learn how to wear large silk scarves better!!

  6. Flannel and pearls – who knew! I LOVE it! And, love the flannel shirt color. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family and friends.
