Wednesday miscellany: some very good sales & your favorites of the week

I’ve had a few mostly free days in London, which I’ve used to explore on my own and do a bit of retail reconnaissance. (More on this soon…) Today I’m scheduled to visit the Chanel exhibition at the Victoria & Albert!

Fall styles on sale

One of the U.S. brands my London friends love is J.Crew, and they bemoan the fact that there’s no longer a store here. J.Crew is currently running a Friends & Family event. J.Crew Passport members can get 40% off selected items with code FAMILY; non-passport members can take 30% off with code FRIENDS. (They also are offering up to 50% off select sweaters & outerwear.)

Never underestimate the power of accessories to make a simple outfit look pulled together…this leopard belt is such a fun accent.

Quite a few of the F&F markdowns could be great additions to holiday outfits, but also worn just because, like this striped poplin shirt with embedded crystals. Also available in white, sizes 00-24.

For those who are sensitive to wool, here’s classic Breton turtleneck sweater in 100% cotton. Sizes XX-Small to 3X. Lots of solid colors too.

I may have pearls on the brain in anticipation of the Chanel exhibition, but these pack a nice visual punch while keeping things simple. And I’m finding shorter necklaces like this one so easy to wear on a day-to-day basis.

These sharp ankle boots are very comfortable, available in both Espresso and black croc, as well as other finishes. (See how I wore mine here.) There’s also a knee-high version.

Talbot’s

has 30% off tops and coats.

It’s not always easy to find a cashmere v-neck, especially in alternate size ranges (Misses, Petite, Plus, Plus Petite). And 30% off! This one looks fitted enough to be a good layering piece for travel, and is available in lots of glorious colors.

Winters: Black, Blue Chill, Blue Majesty, Festive Fuchsia, Mistletoe Green (shown above, looks like Light Emerald to me…), Purple Majesty
Springs: Cool Turquoise, Coral Fete
Autumns: Cool Turquoise (probably best on Soft Autumns…)
Summers: Winter Plum

This “honeycomb” cashmere henley just looks SO cozy! Also 30% off…

I love adding something metallic to dial up a casual look…

Big puffer coats like this one seem to be de rigeur in London right now. This one is also available in red (which looks cool to me, so best for Winters) but Ivory is also a nice alternative to darker coats. In Misses, Petite, Plus, and Plus Petite sizes.

Your favorites this week (& mine)

Here’s what my readers have shopped most this week…

Susan B. takes a mirror selfie, wearing a red Sezane Betty cardigan, AG ex-boyfriend jeans, Aquatalia boots.
What I wore yesterday:
SCARF | CARDIGAN | JEANS | BOOTS

This little red “Betty” cardigan has been one of my travel wardrobe MVP’s so far! I’ve worn it several times, and it works beautifully with all 3 of the pants I packed. I’m wearing size Small. There are so many colors available, and even a leopard print.

The jeans and boots also made the “reader favorites” list.

It doesn’t surprise me that those flannel pajamas made the list; they are so fun and comfortable!

The packable down coat (Plus here) is also on sale now, 40% off with code RUDDERS. (Mine, which is now a few years old, has been a constant companion here in London!)

Visit my SHOP to see all of this week’s best-sellers.

I promise to take lots of photos at the Chanel exhibition, and will share here soon…

  1. Hi Susan. My “Betty” sweater in cream was in heavy rotation on my vacation as well. Loved pairing it with scarves or jewelry. Easy piece that travels well.

  2. Susan,
I look forward to all of your posts. They have been so helpful in helping me build a quality wardrobe. Enjoyed the video you did at Red Leopard on the Gamie style. All you do is I formative and helpful. Wanted to thank you so very much for listing the best colors for each season on the Talbots cashmere sweater. This is so helpful.
    Appreciate all you do.

  3. Hi Susan! As always, I love following along on your adventures. I’m curious when you return if you could do a tutorial on your scarf tying. I have the same scarf and mine never looks as fantastic as yours. I’d love the help if possible. 🙂

  4. I am so with your London friends. I would love J Crew to have stores in mainland Europe (UK doesn’t work for me). You have shown several items I would love to buy.

  5. Susan, I love all of your pics, but have a question about the coral red jacket. It is the Summer coral red? On my screen it seems to match, but wanted to double check. Thanks for taking us along on your trip! Loved your video on styling gamines.

  6. Thanks for taking the time to post while away, Susan. I get ideas from you every time! I really appreciate the detail you go into…I would never have thought to try cool turquoise as an autumn, and those dark brown pants are very tempting. You look awesome with your little jeans cuff!
    Enjoy Chanel!

  7. Thanks for this column today, Susan. So glad you are having such a nice time in London. Time away and with friends is definitly healing. I love that cashmere henley sweater. I am going to take a look at it in our local Talbots. I also want to recommend Land’s End cashmere. I have been wearing it for years as has my husband and the weight is great and I don’t find that it pills like other cashmere sweaters that I have purchased from reputable retailers. Also, they have great sales almost continuously. I also have the packable down coat from Land’s End that you show. I wear it quite a bit in the winter here in northern California where it can be freezing temps in the morning. I also wore it last year in Europe for the Christmas market cruise I went on. With a sweater underneath, I was quite comfortable. It is definitley packable.

  8. I can’t believe how much work you’re doing while on a trip to London. Your posts have been so interesting, and the video was really informative. That Talbot’s puffer coat in red is just beautiful! And, you’re influencing my views on metallic …

  9. I so enjoy your posts. You provide practical suggestions and that inspires me to up my appearance. Safe travels.
